Some cars seem to tick many of the right boxes for buyers looking to enter the classic car world. This 1969 Mustang Mach 1 graphically demonstrates this. It is a spotless vehicle that presents superbly. The drivetrain combination holds the promise of stunning performance and a rewarding driving experience. The icing on the cake is that it is a desirable model in its own right. I have to say a big thank you to Barn Finder Gunter K for referring this stunning pony car to us. If you can see yourself behind the wheel, you will find the Mach 1 located in Fullerton, California, and listed for sale here on Craigslist. If you hand the owner $80,000, you could be driving away in your own slice of classic car heaven.
The photos that the owner supplies of this Winter Blue Mach 1 provide plenty of close-up detail, but none offer an exterior overview. I was able to grab this screenshot from one of the videos that he supplies in the listing, and it shows a car that presents beautifully. The paint shines incredibly well, and there are no signs of any significant flaws or defects. It has been applied over panels that appear to be flawless. There are no dings or dents and no evidence of rust. It isn’t clear whether the Mustang has spent its entire life in California, but the spotless underside confirms that it is a rust-free vehicle. The trim is in excellent order, as is the glass. Adding to its purposeful appearance are the front and rear spoilers, the chrome wheels, and the desirable Sport Slats on the back window.
The VIN and Marti Report both confirm that this Mach 1 rolled off the production line equipped with an S-Code 390ci V8 that produced 320hp. That power found its way to the 3.25 Traction-Lok rear end via a four-speed wide-ratio manual transmission. This combination ensured that the car didn’t lack in the performance stakes and gave it the ability to demolish the ¼ mile in 14.4 seconds. It isn’t clear whether the Mustang is a numbers-matching vehicle, but the owner reveals that he has rebuilt the motor, transmission, and rear end. He has also added power steering and power front disc brakes. The engine received a few performance upgrades, so it is possible that it now produces a few additional ponies. He supplies this YouTube video of the car running and driving. I can’t find much to fault because that 390 sounds crisp and clean, there’s no evidence of rattles or squeaks, and the Mach 1 hits freeway speed with little effort.
The spotlessly clean theme continues when we turn our attention to the Mustang’s interior. There’s nothing that I can find to fault, although purists may disagree with the owner’s decision to fit an aftermarket stereo in place of the original AM radio. Leaving that aside, the condition is excellent. The owner says that the dash and pad are original, and the dash houses its factory tachometer. The faux-woodgrain is in perfect order, and the plastic trim shows no signs of cracks or deterioration. The upholstered surfaces appear to be in as-new condition. Combined, it is an interior that would receive favorable comments at a show or a Cars & Coffee.
For any enthusiast searching for a classic pony car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed, this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 would seem to be a strong contender. It appears to need nothing, and the upgrades that the owner has made should make it a more comfortable and relaxed car to own and drive. It has the ability to turn heads, and while the asking price isn’t cheap, it seems that the buyer won’t need to spend a dime on any aspect of its appearance or drivetrain. It has only been on the market for a few days, and I suspect the owner will have little trouble finding a buyer.
The front strength bracing and other things are missing from engine compartment. For $80 large I would expect a highly correct restoration. IMO this is a $60K car if everything # matches and underside is very clean and rebuilt.
@JohnfromSC: Here is a picture from Barrett-Jackson which shows the same bracing as on this Mach 1. https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=1969+Mustang+Mach+1+engine+compartment.&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.barrett-jackson.com%2Fstaging%2Fcarlist%2Fitems%2FFullsize%2FCars%2F139080%2F139080_Engine_Web.jpg
Why do you say it is missing when it clearly isn’t?
To much Barrett Jackson, a 390 car is not going to pull 80k. Would have to be a cobra jet for that kind of number.
There a few mistakes thus not worth it, more like 50K, no marti report? come on man!
@ fran. Literally the last photo in the listing is of the Marti report. Did I hear an “oops” from fran?
YES you sure can,
“OOOOOOOPPPSIE”
my bad, could swear I did not see it! WOW
Yes very clean, why would you put red floor mats in this?
The red floor mats are sewn in and part of the carpet. If cnot mistaken that was only offered on the Mach 1 and not the Typical sportsroof even with the deluxe interior or other body styles.
They aren’t mats,, it’s embossed into the carpet Just like the original, if you got black interior, you got black carpet with red heel pads for all four seating areas.
Where’s the track lok in the one wheel peel video?
