39K-Mile 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landau

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Talk about a time capsule, this 39,713-mile 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landau in lime green with a white vinyl landau top and white vinyl seats is quite a sight. This has to be the nicest one on the globe, at least in this color combination. The seller has it listed here on eBay in Riverton, New Jersey and they’re asking $26,500. Thanks to T.J. for sending in this tip!

Not everyone who owned a car like this lime green Monte Carlo dressed like this guy did, but we don’t know who originally owned this car, so maybe they did. I mean, not that there’s anything wrong with that. This car is gorgeous, and it’s pretty much loaded with options. We don’t know the story of this one at all but someone sure took care of this car. Some might say that it’s sad that it has so few miles on it, so maybe they didn’t enjoy it as much as they could have.

The second-generation Chevy Monte Carlo was made for a handful of years, 1973 through 1977, and we’ve seen some nice ones here on Barn Finds over the last few years. None that I remember were in this eye-catching lime green color, though. I can’t imagine anyone even casually glancing at a brand-new Ferrari at a cars-and-coffee-type event if this car were anywhere nearby. This thing would own any disco-era car show. One option this car doesn’t have are the “Deluxe Bumpers”, which would have had a black rubber trim piece on them, and also bumper guards.

I can’t imagine wearing street shoes in this car, I’d have those stretchy slip-on shoe covers on the garage floor next to the driver’s door, like when you go to an open house and they have those slip-on shoe covers by the front door. Too weird? Another option that’s missing are bucket seats, but this power bench seat appears to be in beautiful, like-new condition. Everything works perfectly, according to the seller, and this car has no rust! Some underside photos would have been nice.

Sadly, a huge feature of this car is its optional 400-cu.in. V8 engine and the seller hasn’t included a photo of that, which is unusual for an eBay listing showing such a nice car. It would have had 175 horsepower and we’re assuming that it runs well. Hagerty is at $23,100 for a #2 excellent car and this one looks to be all of that. Any thoughts on this Monte Carlo?

I find this color combo mesmerizing, I can’t tell whether I like it or hate it.

Very nice, though I do like the earlier round-headlight version better.

Unique color, looks even better on the Monte Carlo, than the BMW 2002

A nice `76 Monte Carlo, but the paint is a `73 color; not `76. No problem with the repaint, but the color chosen gives it away.

This car has not been repainted. We had 76 in this same shade of green bought new, sold it around 2006 Saw a 76 on Mecum online auctions in the same color not long ago online as well

The 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo did in fact come in this factory color, Chevrolet Lime Green 45 (1976). I know this because my father gave this exact car to me on my 16th birthday in 1991, 38k miles at the time, and he had it since purchased new in 1976.

Lime Green is the 76 color, Oasis Green Iridescent is the 73 color

Right. Nothing at all like this green in ’73.

I wish the car had the optional Special Custom Interior option in white vinyl 50/50 split front seats. Still, very nice car.

Yes. In December of 1975 my brother bought a new 1976 Chevette. Also in Lime Green.

This is to Bill Pressler’s comment which doesn’t have a reply option:
Yes, this exact same Lime Green GM 45 in sparkling metallic. In fact, this exact car was the first time I learned what metallic paint was, my father owned one bought new and he taught me how to wash a car using this Monte, in lime green, metallic, and I asked him why it sparkles.

I worked in a Chevy dealer in 76. I remember we got one in with the same color scheme. It was a ‘factory car’, which meant the factory optioned it and we had to accept it. It was an either-or car; either you loved the color, or you hated it. I liked the exterior color, but the interior was too much for my taste. And I never thought it would stay clean. It looks like this one did stay clean though.

Took me a while to figure out it was a reference to Kermit the Frog’s “It’s Not Easy Being Green”

Beautiful car. Love it. I want to say that the 400ci engine was not available in 1977, which leaves this 1976 Monte Carlo somewhat a rarity. I believe the number one engine choice was the 350ci. The power output was around 15-20 more on the 400ci but the fuel economy was considerably lower 11-12 mpg. This one is a show stopper. Best of luck to the new owners, as of today 11-16-2022 and adjusted for inflation, it’s a great buy.

In my small hometown’s dealer, where I about lived at the time, most of these came with the 305.

My ex wife had a kind of yellow with tan Landau and interior. I am surprised that it didn’t have the swivel buckets like hers. She had a 350 and air. I personally liked the 76 but not as much as my 70 Monte that I had at the same time. Mine had a 400 sb Electric Windows, Air, a AM/FM radio with the switch that changed the display from AM to FM. It also had rare “fender skirts”. Forest Green and full vinyl top. I put Keystone Classics on in and lifted it up on all fours. Those had weak front springs and hit every 5 mi bump so big block springs were installed. Like this one I had a bench seat. Was nice when we went some where and she could snuggle next to me- well at least before we got married

A late-model year production—July ‘76. Perhaps some extra Lime Green Metallic paint and white vinyl seats at the Baltimore plant as the model year production was ending. :)
An interesting line item at the end of the Dealer’s Copy of the vehicle order: “Code N84: Spare tire deletion. Spare tire will be furnished to dealer when available.” Have not seen that before.

There was a raw rubber shortage around then.
My Uncles car came the same way.

Back when I was in highschool a good friend of mine had a green 76 exactly like this one, it had a glitch in the odometer. It would not roll over to 37,000, after it got to 36,999 it would go to 36,000. The car was like that for several years and was finally crashed in the mid 80’s

This is a special car. I too am attracted/repulsed in a strange way by the color combo. This car could have starred in Goodfellas, etc.

To bad it doesn’t have the swivel bucket seats. I think they were ahead of the times for the 70’s

I lived in Florida on Miami Beach in 1976. Worked at a motel, and one of their company cars was a ’76 or ’77 Monte Carlo in this lime green/white combo. At the time I hated the color. Mainly because I had to drive it. I had a 1973 Caprice Estate wagon at the time with the “clamshell” tailgate. They, the motel manager, always needed to borrow my car because it was a station wagon. So, while he had it, I got the Monte Carlo. It was a nice car to drive as I remember, I just didn’t like the color.

Back in the 80’s my father owned a 74 and I owned a 77. Both great cars, reliable, beautifully designed from 73 to it’s downsize demise in 78. Was a GM Best seller throughout those years. The epitome of an American “Personal Luxury car” my only personal complaint about the 73-77 Monte Carlos: Crappy rear seat leg room and no front seat armrest on the Base AND “Landau” models. The Chevrolet division of GM kinda fell short on Luxury amenities which I can understand when you have the Olds Toronado, Buick Riviera and the Caddy Eldorado as cousins to compete with. Nice car, unique popular color of the 70’s. Wish I had one again, but I would have to have one with the console shift and swivel seats Ha Ha

Agree with Keith and others that the automatic console shifter and bucket seats would have made the car more desirable. Having 175 horsepower in that gas mileage conscious time was good; my modern Legacy and Avenger cars were very close in horsepower and cruised all day at the maximum interstate highway speeds. Wonder if the air conditioner has been converted? My favorite colors are red and baby blue but the contrasting lime green and white combination on the Monte is striking. Pictures show the Monte passes all cosmetic tests. Wish they still made personal luxury cars as I owned both Grand Prix and Monte Carlo in the day.

Always loved the 73-77 Monte’s sculptured body sides – conveyed a sporty elegance. I owned a 76 Grand Prix, Pontiac’s sister car to this Monte, in the same lime/white color combo. Mine had the white vinyl bucket seats with console, but instead of the Monte’s green interior parts mine were black (dash, carpet, etc.). It was a stunning car and I always got compliments on the color. Great car, wish I had it back. If this had the bucket seats I’d be all over it!

Absolutely a 1976 Disco Days color, Landau wheels would have been stored, and Spokes would have been installed with nice1.5inch whitewalls, factory sunroof would have been nice with that big front bench seat, for those wonderful after the club parking with your girl, 8 track playing Barry White

I absolutely LOVE this color combination, and am especially pleased that they chose the green dashboard/steering wheel instead of the standard black and black carpet. I also really love a 76 Caprice in this color combo. I know it’s not for everyone, but I love it!!

      I’ve seen 76 Caprice Landau’s in this color, perhaps even a wagon, but never a 4 door…

I bought a new1976 Oldsmobile 98 Regency with White Landau roof in this color combo with white tufted seats and lime green dash and carpets. The car stood out no matter where we went. Got lots of complements and was proud of it. Some friends of ours ordered a 1976 Caprice in the same color with white landau roof and white interior. That was a beautiful car too!
