Jay Leno enjoys a well-earned reputation in the classic world. His vast garage houses some of the most desirable vehicles in automotive history, including the only privately-owned example of Chrysler’s legendary Turbine Car. However, even he can be taken aback by a classic, as demonstrated by this 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. Its presentation is stunning, which is understandable given that this survivor has a genuine 400 miles showing on its odometer. Comedian and actor Gabriel Iglesias became the car’s proud owner in October 2025, when it had 344 miles on the clock. The fact that it has accumulated a few miles since is good news, because its owner intends to enjoy this classic as its creators intended.

The Third Generation Camaro evolved throughout its production life, with Chevrolet performing minor cosmetic changes for most years to differentiate its latest offering from its predecessor. It introduced the IROC-Z in 1985, and the badge would remain a staple of the model range until the end of 1990. This image shows Jay Leno standing beside this 1989 IROC-Z with its proud owner. Their pride is understandable, because of the seven paint shades available to Camaro buyers in 1989, the Code 74 Dark Red Metallic chosen by this car’s first owner is stunning. Gabriel Iglesias purchased the vehicle in October 2025 via a Bring-A-Trailer listing, paying $56,000 for the privilege. It appears he bought the car from what was essentially a flipper, since they only became its custodian earlier that year. Initially assigned to a dealership in Mentor, Ohio, it sat on the showroom floor for a while before finding its first owner. They placed the Camaro in climate-controlled storage, which helps explain how it has remained in as-new condition. Interestingly, the Window Sticker confirms that this was a stripe-delete order, adding to the subtle good looks.

Buyers could order an ’89 IROC-Z with a choice of two motors. This one left the line with the desirable 350ci TPI V8, mated to a four-speed TH700-R4 automatic transmission, a limited-slip rear end, and power assistance for the steering and the four-wheel disc brakes. Chevrolet quoted a power output of 230hp for the V8, proving that Detroit was successfully addressing the power losses experienced during the height of the Malaise Era. This IROC-Z was mechanically untouched when the current owner took delivery, and it has largely stayed that way. He replaced the battery for reliability and ditched the original tires. They looked okay and weren’t cracked, but given his plan to hit the road fairly regularly, safety was a key consideration. The Camaro runs and drives perfectly, with its motor sounding as sweet as a nut.

The original Window Sticker for this Camaro makes fascinating reading, demonstrating that this classic is loaded with creature comforts. These include air conditioning, power windows, power locks, a power driver’s seat, power mirrors, a power hatch release, cruise control, a leather-wrapped tilt wheel, and the premium AM/FM radio/cassette stereo with electronic seek and a graphic equalizer. Unsurprisingly, given the car’s history, the interior looks factory-fresh. The Gray Custom Cloth seatcovers are wear-free, and the remaining uphostered surfaces are perfect. There are no aftermarket additions, and a lack of UV exposure has left the plastic components looking new.

We’ve seen many low-mile classics at Barn Finds, and some have had lower odometer readings than this 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. We have often pondered what the future holds for cars that could easily become museum pieces. That is why this stunning survivor is refreshing, because its proud owner intends to enjoy it as its creators intended. The story is fascinating, so why not check this YouTube video to discover all there is to know about this Camaro? It’s definitely worth it.

Pocket change for Jay and Fluffy.
Nice.
Well, Thats as good as it gets to finding something like this, as-s new camaro. Enjoy it and treat it is well. I was a 1st,2nd gen lover but a nice one like this I can really like.
Fluffy needs to put his seatbelt on for the test drive! Saw Jay and Fluffy together at the SEMA Show a couple of months ago – they talked about Fluffy’s VW Bus in Jay’s detailing products booth there. They appear to get a long real well.
Saw Jay at a charity car show last year in Woodland Hills CA ….He’s trying to look at the cars and the crowd kept getting in the way…Someone told me that you can talk to Jay about cars but as soon as you bring up show business he’ll stop talking and walk away…I like Gabriel…His comedy shows I’ve watched over the years online are funny and he keeps it 99% clean…..He seems lately to be buying low miles cars…Still has his VW bus collection …..He bought a low mileage 96 Impala SS and a Mitisubshi 3000 GT….All off Bring a Trailer….
Nice clean low mile Camaro survivor here with the 350/auto combo. I beleive you could only get the manual trans with the 5.0 engine.
You could only get the 5.7 with an auto. 5.0 you could get auto or stick. The stick cars came with other equipment that really woke the 5.0 up, which makes that the version to have, IMO.
There was a real hot H.O 305/5sp only setup available from the factory Mark. Could get an axle and suspension upgrade too. Believe it was a bit of a stripper model with no a/c, but could be wrong. Popular model for owners w club racing in mind 🏁
$56,000?
I thought this car, in that condition with 400 miles was very well bought. Peak IROC here. I like that he isn’t afraid to put a few more miles on it too. Only reason I wouldn’t spend 56k on it? No tops. Lucky guy.
Nice car, but for $56,000, there are many other cars I’d buy before this one.
I assume you’re like me and don’t have the $56K to spend. This guy does and he wanted this car.
In the words of F. Scott Fitzgerald, “Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me.”
Phfftt – 56K is nothing. Here’s an ’87 IROC with 100 miles for $92,500. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1407300110997836/
