Going far beyond dropping a big V8 and transmission into a classic vehicle, this 1957 Ford F-100 Panel truck in Portland, Oregon follows through with modern air conditioning, power front disc brakes, Toyota power steering, and more. With most of its engineering complete, this strong runner seeks a new owner here on eBay. The $12,750 Buy It Now price leaves plenty of budget for finishing the cosmetic work and other shortcomings. Keen fans will notice the truck wears most of a 1960 front clip.
Many of these 429 cid (7.0 L) Ford V8 motors powered later trucks, and this one “fires right up,” according to the owner. A long list of performance parts should deliver reliable operation and greater than factory thrust. The seller points out the need to fabricate inner fender liners, though it may be possible to adapt some from another vehicle.
No better picture of the controls made the listing, but it looks like a stock dash with later gauges. The inset step eases entry to the vehicle without an external running board. The half-ton panel truck was all new for 1957, according to Ford brochures at lov2xlr8.
A hard impact at the rear contributes to the low price for sure, and may serve as a warning to anyone removing their bumpers for cosmetic reasons. Bumpers serve a real purpose; the heavy metal guards keep your body panels from bearing substantial damage. Without bumpers, even a low-speed bump can make you cry.
A custom fuel cell resides under the carpet. What looks like birch plywood keeps the cargo area from resembling a black hole. Eagle-eyed readers may notice the interior ceiling obscures the aftermarket sunroof, as noted in the listing. The new owner could go in various directions with this updated panel truck. Honestly it’s got enough high-performance parts to tweak it for drag racing, but with the Vintage Air, modern steering and brakes, it could become an SUV alternative. How would you build out this partially-modernized panel truck?
Are you all sure this is a 57 was the front end changed? 57 had single head lights
If it is a (titled) 57 I am interested
that’s not a 57 front clip
Take a moment to read seller’s description…
’60 fenders, grill bar & hood.
Thanks, Rixx56. Todd also mentioned that in the very first paragraph.
I’m a ford fan but that generation of styling just doesnt appeal to me.
I find it to be quite cool looking. Don’t care for the fuel tank in side though. I would find another location for that. Then level out the floor boards and make a nice booty wagon. Now I’m a bit to over the hill for much of that but A guy can dream. I don’t have ladies knocking at my door these days. So I’ll just hook a little teardrop trailer on the back of my little Transit connect and head out on a safari. I’m just getting goofier all the time.
God Bless America
All the different make of parts. A person wonders what has not been mentioned. To find a part for it. If any had to be replaced, Would be a guessing game. Plus the work it still needs. Too much–I,ll pass. Look for something that does have original parts. Plus not have to worry about gas fumes inside the cab,
The previous previous (yes, going back 2) did a lot of great work on this rig and saved files of receipts. The last owner out of Portland, not so great. He really let it run down and get weathered. I ended up with it through some horse trading, and gotta say, I was not a fan of the looks of it originally. The longer I have it, the more I like it. The 429 is a beast and has tuned headers with 3″ exhaust, cam, and high rise, it turns a lot of heads both driving and especially sitting at idle. Everyone wants to know what is shaking the ground. I have spent the last 3 months just fixing rattles and little things, it not sure I want to “Restore” it, thinking just fixing some of the rust issues, then painting and enjoying it. Not trying to build a show car, Just want something really cool to pull our vintage trailer for weekend camping trips.
