Rolling in hard and fast with the deepest, strongest 3/4-ton frame of any American pickup of the era, Dodge’s newly-designed Ram pickups were somewhat revolutionary at the time. That new truck also used front coil springs on 4×4 pickups, another innovation. This two-wheel drive 1994 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 pickup is posted here on craigslist in Yakima, Washington and the seller is asking $13,500. Here is the original listing.
Motor Trend gave the golden calipers to the 1994 Dodge Ram pickup (Truck of the Year) and it was quite a departure from Dodge’s 1993 trucks, and most other trucks from any other manufacturer. They were somehow stronger, quieter, and smoother and they offered a gas-powered V10 with more torque than the Cummins diesel engine for those who didn’t want a diesel truck. I like the sound and the MPG of a diesel, but there’s something cool about a V10 in a pickup.
It would be another decade before Dodge offered a full-blown Viper V10 in the SRT-10 pickup, just for the record. Ford offered a V10 starting in 1997 but Dodge beat them to the punch by a few years. This truck looks almost like new, and with just 42,946 miles showing on the odometer, and being a Washington state truck, that’s probably why. I don’t see a flaw inside or out, do you?
Well, maybe the gray velour interior is showing some classic “purple haze” fading as often happens, but otherwise, the interior looks basically like it would have three long decades ago. The seats look perfect, condition-wise, and I remember commercials for the dash controls in this truck being “winter glove-friendly”, as in able to be operated with gloves on. The original in-dash stereo and cassette player are still there and it looks all original, other than having some diamond plate protection around the top of the bed sides. We don’t get to see inside the bed, unfortunately, and there are no underside photos.
While not as flashy as the redhead Viper or SRT-10, this Dodge 8.0-liter (488-cu.in.) OHV V10 Magnum has 300 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Sending power through a four-speed automatic to the rear wheels, this truck is said to be working perfectly and it looks great. Have any of you owned a Dodge Ram with a V10?
Got a ride home from the bar one nite 🥴 🍺, friend of a friend, a logger.
He took our drunk asses home in his V10 Ford 4×4, 4-doors and a stick shift. Awesome truck.
A friend bought one and it was a beautiful truck. I bought a 3500 diesel dually. On paper they should have been similar, but it real life his was an underpowered gas hog and he sold it after a year and bought the diesel! I still have mine and it has worked great for all these years.
But this is an awesome example if you aren’t pulling a heavy trailer. Reliable and comfortable. Hopefully the front end mods have all been installed ( especially the steering gear gearing support) or it is going to have a big front end wander pretty quickly.
The turning point for Dodge trucks. You bought this engine when you didn’t want to listen to the Cummins. Sold quite a few and never a dissatisfied customer. Good running with an auto or stick. Clean old Ram.
Wanted to mention that these are not the Viper motor. The truck used a Y-block rather than a V-block for added strength and durability. Tough engine with a blah exhaust note.
43,000 miles cause ya couldnt keep gas in these~~
Not so. In actual use they were more efficient than the 360 V8. Of course that’s a pretty low bar to get over.
It just doesn’t matter what they do with it … diesel, gas, leaf springs, coil springs, even change the name for whatever reason, doesn’t matter, a Dodge is a Dodge. Hardly has enough power to pull the hat off your head and you can only test that statement if you can get it started! A kid with an ice cream cone walked past one I was foolish enough to own years ago, and I had to plug in the block heater to get it going.
Complete trash.
I have 1 of those (360) in a 2000 2500,, 9 @ best~~ 42,000 when I purchased 6 years ago,, 51,000 now
Notice to new owner that engine management/computer is OBD-1 and needs a special code reader or a automotive tablet with adapter. OBD-2 didn’t start till model year 1996. Always run a diagnostic check on vehicles that allow you to before purchase.
