Dodge produced its second-generation Charger from 1968-1970, and with the demand still sky-high, these are continuing to exchange hands quickly no matter what kind of shape they’re in. We see quite a few of these cars here at Barn Finds, everything from decayed offerings to like-new examples, and it’s always refreshing to find one that’s sort of middle-of-the-road when it comes to condition. While there is still quite a bit of work needed, this 1970 Dodge Charger may be a decent candidate if you’re looking for a B-Body that can potentially be turned into a driver and back on the road without too many headaches. The car is located in Stafford Springs, Connecticut, and can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $25,900.
The seller tells us his Charger had an older restoration and is still really solid, although no specific details of exactly what was done are given, and he does state that the body is only in fair condition which seems more than reasonable, as things seem to be mostly complete outside and nothing glaring is standing out that doesn’t at least look salvageable. The body could use a bit of smoothing out and a new paint job, but it doesn’t look like it would be all that difficult to make it present pretty well as a driver. Just losing those wheels would be a step in the right direction!
We only get one photo from inside, and I would agree here that fair seems appropriate when it comes to the interior. If any of our readers have any theories on those door panels I’d like to hear them! The seats obviously need work and it’s kind of hard to see what’s up with the dash, but the console is present and the floors aren’t looking too bad.
The 440 is from a ’68 something, and the seller mentions nothing about its internals or if it’s currently running. There’s an automatic transmission, but no word on its condition either. Most noticeably missing under the hood is the brake booster and master cylinder, and there are also no brake drums on the car. No explanation of why, just that the Charger has no brakes at all.
Things underneath are appearing to be surprisingly overall solid, although the driveshaft is MIA. The seller says that about 90% of the car is there, and it would have been nice to find out why the other 10% disappeared, but what’s gone seems like it would all be fairly straightforward to replace and get the car going again. What are your thoughts on this 1970 Dodge Charger R/T?
This R/T definitely has possibilities. I was never a fan of the ’70 frontend styling as IMO it was “too” clean if that makes a lick of sense.
The ’69 grill is best…… for Chargers.
Nice car,but the white wheels don’t do it any justice
I assume those are light-colored, brushed aluminum wheels but at first glance, they look like white trailer wheels, don’t they?
Needs steelies and dog dish caps.
It’s nice to see one not painted orange or black.
Charger R/Ts are formidable. They are stunningly pretty and have 440 Magnum’s (or 426 Hemi’s) to prove that they are not all show.
My brother was parking cars at a local resort in 1970 or so, which was hosting a Chrysler Corporate Convention. Two executives came out and their cars were promptly retrieved.
The first executive to pull away just nailed the throttle of his shiny red Dodge Charger R/T, and laid down some serious smoke. As the second executive was starting to pull away in his identical Charger, one of my brother’s smart-Alec co-workers mischievously asked (in a heavy New York accent) “Can you do that, sir?”
That was all the provocation the executive needed. He came to a complete stop, torqued it against the brake, then lit up those factory stock tires. After few seconds, the Charger emerged from a thunderstorm of billowing clouds and sounds, turned right, and chased after the other Charger.
Never a camera when you want one.
Wasaaay tooo much $$$$$$$
Maybe I’m stuck in the past, or even Pre COVID present, but way too much.
I guess pricing is all in your perspective. Right now, 68 – 70 Charger R/Ts are the hottest car, so you have to pay to play.
Will the market for these bust? Almost certainly, but the best of the bunch will hold up while these junkers will return to their backyard / back of garage status.
SOLD for $31,200.
There is not a R/T Emblem to the right of the charger emblem in the front grill. I’m pretty sure all the R/T’s left with the R/T badging on the front and back.
There should definitely be an R/T emblem on the grille. That emblem was was on Chargers that were not R/Ts.
Plus, the document included in the eBay ad from the state shows the color was maroon. That leaves a lot of questions on answered by the seller, was the front end smashed up and the only available grill was a regular grill? How did The Original Grill get swapped out or did it get destroyed in an accident and that’s how the car wound up Green? $31,000 is a bit too much to spend with questions on answered and is the driveshaft included in the sale?
