440 Included: 1970 Dodge Challenger Project

The seller of this 1970 Dodge Challenger is optimistic that this project has many possibilities, and he believes that performing a restoration would be a productive way to spend the upcoming winter months.  I’ll be the first to agree that this one’s probably worth saving, but it’s going to be a long road ahead for whatever route the buyer chooses to follow, as work in just about every department will be required here.  As the seller says, this will be a beautiful E-Body when completed, so if you’re ready to get started, this 1970 Challenger can be found here on eBay. This one’s located in Somerville, Tennessee, about an hour east of Memphis, with the lone bid of $6,500 already enough for a sale.

Not much of a backstory is provided here, but the seller mentions that the amateur paint job was done a long time ago, which included painting over the door handles.  It would have been preferable to see what the body looked like before the blue coating, and it’s sort of hard to tell if that’s filler underneath, or if this is a case of not much prep being made before the respray.  Hopefully, at least some panels will be adequate enough to smooth out and save, with some favorable news being that the hood is included.  Not as good is that there’s an aftermarket something or other attached to it.

This Challenger is said to have originally been equipped with a 318, but it’s long gone. In the bay now is a 440, which the seller says is a 1969 date-coded big block of the 375-horsepower variety.  The motor is not hooked up, but it’s stated as being in good shape and not worn or blown.  No transmission is present, so an automatic unit will need to be sourced, unless the new owner decides to convert this car to a manual.

The amateur mods continue on the inside, with some gauges placed over the factory components in the cluster, plus an aftermarket steering wheel added on the column.  I’m not sure what we’re seeing where the radio would have been, or what those things are above the missing ashtray door, but it’s safe to say that this one will need plenty of attention on the inside as well.

A big positive here is that the owner states the rear rails are good, and thankfully, he provides us with nine shots from underneath.  The floors and trunk pan will require replacing, but hopefully, much of the frame itself is still solid enough to retain.  I’m curious what direction our readers would go in here- is it worth considering taking a chance on the included 440?  What about returning this one back to factory specs?  How would you move forward with this 1970 Dodge Challenger?

“The motor is not hooked up,”…

Why would anyone let their kid bedazzle their car?

I guess the same type of person who would bondo floorpans.
I have to admit, I have never seen that before.
