454/4-Speed: 1967 Chevrolet C20 Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

To begin their second generation of production, the Chevrolet series of C/K trucks got a more modern design for 1967 along with some fresh sheet metal outside, still looking about as cool today as in the sixties when these pickups were brand new.  As was common back in the day, a great selection of engine options was available, up to and including a big block of the 396 variety.  However, this 1967 Chevrolet C20 here on eBay is rocking even more cubic-inches, and this one seems to score very high on the fun-factor scale.  The pickup is located in Peyton, Colorado, and can be yours today for the buy-it-now price of $8,500.  Our thanks go out to reader Barn Finds reader Will, who pointed out that this truck is actually a C20, although the seller has it listed as a C10.

Under the hood now is a built 454, a big block V8 described as rowdy and a strong runner.  That’s all the details we get, with no additional information provided such as where the engine came from or how much HP it’s putting out.  A 4-speed manual transmission takes care of shifting duties, with the owner assuring us that the clutch is good, along with the brakes also receiving a clean bill of health.  This one’s said to run and drive great, and I can imagine it’s probably a blast to get behind the wheel of!

The exterior is said to be super solid, and according to the seller, that’s still the original paint we’re seeing.  Depending on the vehicle, sometimes when I see a patina finish, my first thought is to envision some body work followed by an immediate respray.  However, the appearance here makes me feel the opposite, as the scrapes and wear seem to fit this truck’s personality perfectly.  I could also understand the future owner wanting to smooth the panels out and take things to a higher-level, but other than replacing the cracked windshield, leaving the outside as-is isn’t a bad option either.

A peek inside reveals an interior that’s in nowhere near perfect condition, but the seat cover is nice and all of the instruments are still present.  Some of the bed wood is decayed, although further down where it’s more important, the frame rails appear to be solid.  There’s something about this 1967 Chevrolet C20 which makes me feel it’s a better candidate to leave alone and just enjoy driving, and allow the 454 to be the attention getter more than the body.  What are your thoughts here?

I like it just fine as it is. I wouldn’t NEED a 454 in a truck like this, but what the heck. I imagine it’d be 9 mpg vs 12ish with a 350. So, why not. I’m a sucker for these trucks anyway. My grandad had a similar one in turquoise or Seafoam or whatever that I remember chucking square bales of hay out of the bed as he tooled around in the pasture. This was the early 80’s and I was 8 or 10. I can still smell the second hand Lucky Strike smoke from the ride back from the barn. Great times, and I intend to have a similar truck one day.

Interestingly, the steering wheel on this one where it’s worn looks like the color of Paw Paw’s old truck. Yeah, we called him Paw Paw. We was country as turnip greens. Spent the summertime cuttin up logs for the winter 🎵

This has a good body line and a nice bow tie to own… I like the truck but would paint it as to my taste would be a deep blue or even white would look great. I have seen some in the past that rocked even orange for paint …

I had a 68 that had the same body style.
It has a 307 in it and I took out the 3spd. and replaced it with a Muncie 4spd.
I could spin the tires pretty easily with the 307 I can’t imagine what a 454 would do.

    I believe it’s a C20, 8 lugs and a C20 emblem on the fender

I can say as someone who had to take dates out as a teenager in one of these. 3/4 tons with granny low 4 spds. are complete lumber wagons. This is not a cruiser by any means. It is a rough riding work truck.

This truck should ride decent, it has a coil spring rear. GMC’s of this era had rear leaf springs so they were rougher

I wouldn’t change a thing. The paint’s done, interior done. New windshield and drive. Maybe look into an overdrive transmission.

I have a yard full of these things, waiting for retirement which is just about here. I drove a 1970 when I dated my wife. Got married driving a 1972 Blazer. Been buying them ever since. Used a 1972 Chyenne with built 396 to move 800 miles, had three tanks and needed all three to get to the next city to fill up. Simple and easy to work on, nothing like todays pieces of garbage. Even with 35 or 40 of them I have a hard time bringing myself to sell one.

I’ve owned a 1967 C10 CST factory equipped with 327, power steering, brakes, a/c, and bucket seats since 1979. Chevy only produced 917 of these CST versions that year. I”m lucky enough to have owned this one for over 45 years! Super smooth ride with plenty of HP,

The crayon marks on the firewall confirm it is a C-20. What’s with the holes in the inner fenders? This unit has decades more life left in it. A good buy!
