454 And A 4-Speed: 1971 Chevrolet C-10

We’ve seen a few nice pickups come across our desks here at Barn Finds recently, and this particular one is no exception. This Chevy C-10 underwent a comprehensive restoration 4-years-ago, and it is a rather nice example with something tasty under the hood. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. Located in Manheim, Pennsylvania, it is offered with a clear title. The seller has set a BIN of $18,900 for this pickup, but there is the option available to make an offer.

This C-10 has undergone a pretty comprehensive restoration, and this has included the panels and paint. The vehicle was the subject of a glass-out repaint in Hugger Orange and White. A lot of external components such as the tailgate, rear bumper, lighting, and trim were replaced as part of this process. Examining the vehicle closely, I have been able to locate a couple of very small marks in the paint, but otherwise, it looks to be in really good condition. The seller provides a comprehensive set of photos which includes a number of shots of the underside, and it looks completely solid.

The interior certainly hasn’t been ignored as part of the restoration. Every upholstered surface has been restored, and apart from some minor stretching of the material on the driver’s seat, it looks close to perfect. As part of the process, all of the interior was removed and a fair amount of Dynamat was installed, along with new carpet. There is a modern stereo that has been installed in the glove compartment, auxiliary gauges for temperature and oil pressure, and a CJ Grant steering wheel has also been fitted. It all looks to be in great condition.

Under the hood is where things get serious. This C-10 originally sported a 350ci, but this has been retired in favor of a 454. This has been the subject of some tasteful upgrades to maximize reliability, and it also features a custom exhaust. It also sits on 2″ lowered springs at the front, and the 454 is backed by a 4-speed transmission. The seller has also fitted the C-10 with factory front disc brakes, so it should stop nicely.

This C-10 restoration and upgrades appear to have been carefully considered and well executed. Looking at what is currently on the market reveals that the combination of restoration and modifications carried out on this particular C-10 make it quite an unusual vehicle. The end product is an understated vehicle that should be capable of some quite stunning performance. Would you want this one in your garage?

Yes, it is disturbingly close to me as well (Baltimore, MD). If I bought it, I’d need a cap for the bed – because that would be my new bedroom.

Six cars for just my wife and I – or should I say, one car for my wife and five for me. For some reason, she thinks that is more than enough!

It’s got a ,,FOUR,,FIFTY,,FOUR. Those numbers just command respect wherever it goes. In this? Check out the gas gauge, that’s where it will be most of the time. I don’t care for the front end treatment, but clearly, somebody did a nice job. No hitch, what you going to do with it, hop from gas station to gas station? At least put a camper on it, or pull something.

I wonder if Sean “Farmtruck” Whitley has come across this. It could be a nice “goin’ to town” truck for a farmer.

I’m not a fan of the black dash (would look better and be correct in body color) , lack of side mirrors and choice of trans, though… It should have gotten swapped when the engine was swapped. M21 Muncie or Super T10 BW 4 speed in the least, but a T56 would be SWEET if sticking with a manual trans…

I love the body style of the 67 to 72 C/K trucks. This one is nice but I don’t care for the black dash or the grill treatment and I’m not a fan of lowering pickup trucks. I’m not interested in buying it so I guess my opinion really doesn’t matter does it.

The dash and grille were the only nits I could find to pick… everything else is spot on.

Certainly has a sleeper look to it. All it lacks is removing the gas cap and replacing it with an oil rag

And a little hen poop on the pedals would help.

I like this style too, but this generation had coil springs in the back. Not too crazy about that idea in a truck.

Leaf springs were standard on GMC’s of that era , and a low cost option on Chev. Dealer salesmen either didn’t know , didn’t care or didn’t push it. My uncle who was a mechanic for a Chev. dealer had two of them . A ’71 and a ’72.

Leaf springs were an option. I have leaf springs on my 71 and it is shown on the SPID on the glovebox door. I too thought they only came in coil springs, but I learned differently when I purchased mine.

As for the grill… not a fan of the blacked out headlight bezels nor the tube grill. The front bumper looks like it has some little issues going on, not the quality you should see for a complete restoration or for $18,000.

My 68 Chevy K/10 had leaf springs in the front and rear.

        jimmy,you do know the difference in a C10 and a K10 right ?

@bob, Yes I do but because I’ve never owned a 2 wheel drive pickup I might have not known a 2 wheel drive has coil springs in the rear, so I’m assuming they do. Thank you .

Sorry folks, but I’d use this truck in a
    reasonable manner. Some hauling,
towing, yes. Tire frying burnouts, no.
It’s just too nice to use as a beater.
Although there may be one out there
I’d press into scrapyard duty, but not
this truck. The truck cap isn’t a bad
idea if you want to use it for camping
like Dad did back in the day. Of course,
we also had a Shasta travel trailer we
pulled behind our truck at the time.
We older kids got to sleep in the truck
while the young ‘uns and Mom and Dad
slept in the camper. Now that was
    camping!!

This truck could plow the fields all day long with the BBC torque and the “stump puller” transmission, but I agree that a nice T56 would help, SO Much. Maybe get you past every other gas station?

As nice as looks, something about it seems odd. The seller replaced a lot of parts on this truck, but didn’t seem to do anything with the front bumper or grille. Personally I prefer the stock grille for this year than the tube grille installed here. If this was a short bed I could see all the money, but the long beds from this era scream work truck to me.

I’m with you. A long bed truck you can cut value by 50%. This truck on its best day is a 10000 dollar vehicle.

These C-10 have become very popular and can bring good money, but to do that there, is a major problem with this truck ! It is a long box, I know many of you won’t agree, but all you have to do, is look at the price’s, it is exactly like comparing a 4-door sedan to a 2-door hardtop. So much so, that there is a shop here in Phoenix, run by a very talented young man ,who does nothing but convert these long boxes, to short beds. If I bought this truck, I would stop at his shop and get the truck fixed before, I even brought it home. That way it would fit in the garage, and be easy to sell, when the time comes

A 454, a 4-speed, and handling like a wounded water buffalo. Can you say – “weight distribution”? Hey, at least the view under the hood is sure to impress small boys and your friendly corner gas station owner.

I would leave it as a 8 foot long bed you can haul anything you want to with out needing a trailer me I will not own a truck unless it has a 8 foot long bed and a 4×4 and trucks look better to me with the 8 foot long bed and anything shorter than a 8 foot long bed is useless to and looks like trash to me

It looks like it’s ready for HALLOWEEN. Rattle Can the dash in gloss black, So it matches the Headlight bezels. I’m from Pa. I would take a magnet with me cause these trucks don’t last long with the salt in the winter…..

either paint the grille black or get chrome bezels; would make a big difference.

Having issues with the price of this resto mod or what ever y’all call it. Could the price include an original grille instead of the – wrecked it one night type grille ? Also for a non-air factory cab….yes I know it’s up north BUT youse guys get them out in the summer months don’t ya ? Also pretty sure that’s a grannie 4 speed and no get off the line type speed trannie. And with such a pretty paint job – is there any one in the state that could do the letters on the tailgate or what ? Sorry most likely my worst review of late….but if I could get half that for my factory 402 now 454 Sierra with still factory paint, A/C, tach, right side bed door storage….just sayin….but not selling

In regard to the A/C. Yes, it would be nice, especially in warmer climates. However, these trucks have floor vents and vent windows. It is amazing how much air moves around the cab with these open. Not so good at stop lights, but I drive mine in the country so there is no sitting at stop lights.

Too bad the Pacer Wagon is giving an error code~
    ‘S all A bout:
is this a truck for wrk?
    /OR/
    is this a ‘commuter’ type?

The 8 ft is good for 1st, all the geegaus added R for a truck-thats-a-sedan.
    If 4WD – short bed would apply…
Once U start customizing it becomes too personal for me.
To sell…restore more original, customize to keep.
