455 Convertible: 1969 Oldsmobile 98

Who could turn down a 455 powered convertible that is in original condition with a reasonable price? Well I know I twitch when I see cars like this, but I know for sure I don’t have a garage long enough for this gorgeous American made street boat. Original but needing a few details sorted out, this 98 is a smooth runner and is offered for the buy it now price of $5,000! Check it out this convertible bruiser here on eBay out of Grand Island, New York.

Although only a few details have been given about this convertible, the photos give an idea to its condition. The interior looks fair and original, but if you look closely you can see a rip in the driver side seat. I would also guess that the driver seat bottom is a bit rough as well. One key detail the seller offers up to us is that the car runs good, and thankfully the standard engine for 1969 was the world renowned Olds 455! So there is plenty of grunt to push this street boat around. While the car is a runner, I would assume that to mean it is also a driver, but may be in need of some mild details.

Although imperfect, this affordable big block convertible looks like a sweet ride to enjoy and use as a fair weather cruiser. Or perhaps as the seller suggests, this would make a great restoration project over the winter. Probably the biggest concern with this Olds is that the convertible top needs help. The other concerns come in the form of some mild dents and dings, and there is some mild rot on the front of the hood. There are other areas where surface rust can be seen, but it almost appears that someone touched up the rusty areas with silver spray paint. Granted not the most elegant way to handle that issue, but for the price and the condition, the car is still interesting for sure. Would you take on this big block convertible?

The whole pleasure of this machine would be flipping on the wipers to wash the Prius and Fiat guts off as you drive over them between gas stations.

I wouldnt knock Toyota to hard. They are great vehicles that will outlive and American car. Most if not all Toyotas are made in the U.S.A. now. Alot of the big 3 are made overseas, but assembled here.

MH, while that may be true, I don’t feel any love for my refrigerator, which is what a Toyota is, an appliance to get you from one point to another with no emotion.

Friend of mine had one. What a great vehicle it was. Cruising around in that thing was such a pleasure. I could steer it with one finger around corners.

I’d love to have this baby!

Probably an old guy who figured it was like the classifieds – 25 cents a word.

A friend in Highschool had an 88. Every turn we took that sides hubcaps fell off. After a while, we wouldn’t retrieve them.

Oldsmobile 88. They only made them for 50 years.

if i had a project cutlass with a 350 i would be sorely tempted to buy this, swap engines, and keep both.

One of these is on my long term list. I don’t have storage space for a convertible right now and I also have three cats so I can’t bring it to the house.

It looks great except for the gangsta wheels.

My land yacht was a ’71 Delta 88 Royale. What a cruise ship. That 455 would get up and go, as long as you could afford the gas.

Id love to cruise this monster Olds up the west coast puffing a big bomber with a Mariache band jamming for accompaniment!

I believe I know this car. Looked at it about 4 years ago out in PA. Was all set to buy it until I checked the measurements and found it wouldn’t fit in my garage.

I own the twin sister hardtop version of this car. The 455 motor and HT400 transmission are rock solid. The convertible might get a little better mileage than the hard top, but be prepared to know where every gas station in town is. Given that the top is shot and the paint is weathered, I would ask for pictures of the floorboards as they may be rusted out. The ride on the Interstate is awesome in these cars!

I had this exact car but in gold with a brown interior. Bought it in ’79 for $375 bucks. It only had 80,000 miles on it, was in really good shape except for a big rust hole in the drivers side floor. The top or windshield leaked right down between the seat and steering wheel. I drove it for about a year then sold it for $200 bucks. I guess hindsight is 20/20. If I had kept all of the cars i should have I sure wouldn’t have any place to put em
