455 V8 & Swivel Seats: 1975 Hurst/Olds W-30

This 1975 Hurst Olds W-30 is located in Palatine, Illinois. It is listed here on eBay in an online auction that ends in 2 days. The car is currently bid to $18,500. Oldsmobile was fortunate to team up with Hurst Performance to build 2,535 Hurst/Olds edition cars in 1975. Of those, 1,293 were painted white and 1,242 were black on the exterior. Buyers had a choice of two engine options that year. The W-25 cars had an Oldsmobile 350 cubic inch engine and the W-30 cars had the Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch engine. Slightly more W-25’s were built in 1975 (1,342) compared to the 455 V8 equipped W-30 cars (1,193).

This car looks very clean. You can usually tell an Olds engine because the oil fill tube is conveniently located on the front of the engine. The Hurst Olds designated as W-25 models were equipped with a 350 engine, or opting for the W-30 meant that the car had the larger 455 engine. While these engines weren’t as potent as those from earlier years, they were reliable and smooth running. The smaller 350 cubic inch V8 engine was factory rated at 170 horsepower with a 4 barrel carburetor, while the top of the line 455 cubic inch V8 engine delivered only 190 horsepower. It is hard to believe that you can choke down an 455 cubic inch V8 to the point that it only produces 190 horsepower.

The interior of all Hurst Olds cars are a combination of sportiness and style. They were equipped with swivel bucket seats and Hurst Dual Gate shifter mounted in the console. The interior of this car looks to be in excellent condition and the white plastic and vinyl has not “yellow’d” as many do. All Hurst Olds were equipped with automatic transmissions and came with the sport steering wheel. As mentioned previously, the 1975 Hurst/Olds came in two exterior colors – white and black. This car is a black W-30 Hurst/Olds with a black and white interior (black dash, carpet & console). It was common for many Oldsmobile, Pontiac and other GM cars to be equipped with multi color interiors in the 1970’s. The car has power windows and several other creature comforts.

This is my favorite year for the Cutlass line. This car has been garaged for 12 years and is said to be a survivor. The odometer reading on this car shows 62,355 miles. The seller states that the car runs well and drives even better. This looks like a great example.

That contrasting white and black swivel bucket interior is a knockout. This whole Olds is a knockout. And Ill take either, but having a 455 is a huge plus. It seems theres a small tear on the drivers seat but other than that its great, even under the hood is clean. Id love to have this in my driveway

In 1978 my Dad suprised us all by trading in the old 65′ Olds Cuttless for a new California Special. It featured a split roof with a polished steel strip from side window to side. A metallic green with white interior. Believe me, it had more than 170hp from its 350ci. GM lied to the government to make sure they met emission standards. The gas crisis was not over. A standard 455ci Rocket was in reality more like 300hp. Chevy did the same with Vettes, its common knowledge. 105 inch wheelbases Olds Cuttless Nascar’s anyone remember?
Beautiful example but way the hell overpriced. You can find these for 8-10k restored. When dad let me drive it, smooth as silk and powerful. Never a single problem ever, when dad died, Mom traded it for a Honda Accord without telling her sons. Ugh! jv smashpalace

Words of advice…you should research your facts before posting on a forum that consists, for the most part, of very knowledgeable “car folks”. Nearly everything you have stated is completely erroneous. Oh, and it is a Cutlass, not a “Cuttless”, lol.

Nice looking car! The torque with the 455 will be felt. Looks like power door locks and manual windows.

The person responsible for designing this car never got enough credit. 50 years old and the lines put many modern cars to shame. Love it.

Boy, at only 62K the driver’s seat bolster looks destroyed, and the grain on the sport steering wheel looks non-existent. Just being nit-picky I suppose?!

Looks like the A/C has been neutered.

Not much of a description from the owner. It appears that the A/C compressor, brackets and lines are gone. No mention of that. Car is in pretty nice shape though. Would like to have seen pictures of the underside.

If this car is as nice up close as it is in the photos, then the current 18.7K bid is a bargain.

Let’s see what it ends up at.

Two years ago, I passed on a white 75 H/O witih a black vinyl top. It had 455, air blew pretty cold for $18,000. It was a super dry, real southern California car that was owned by a farmer there. It was in Mass., when I looked at it. It drove pretty well, but I just wasn’t ready to pull the trigger. Iti needed paint. This has a few problems, a/c ripped out, tear in that swivel seat, very common on these cars, not a deal breaker. I can live with the aftermarket gauges. The stripe on the hood is incorrect and the wrong color. But as was mentioned here, going on 50 years young, this beauty is far better looking than any new pile of crap made today, that includes the C8 Corvette. I had a 76 with the square headlamps, a Cutlass Salon.
