The seller states that this is a 45k mile survivor but it has had some paintwork before he purchased it. Also, it has aftermarket T-Tops, so I am not sure it qualifies as original or a survivor. It is a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am and is listed here on eBay. I am always amazed at people that want to sell cars for a lot of money and they post poor pictures. The car has a Buy It Now Price of $24,900 with 14 days left in the auction. The Trans Am is located in Amherst, Ohio but claims to be a Southern car with no rust.
The car has a blue cloth interior and the dash has a cover over it. The car is well equipped with automatic transmission, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and power locks. There were over 117,000 Trans Ams produced in 1979 and most were produced with the Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 engine like this one. The car only produced 185 horsepower and was usually equipped with a 2.73 rear end. That makes it nice for highway driving but a slug at the stop light.
A shown above, the Trans Am has Cars & Concepts aftermarket T-tops. Better hope they don’t get broken or stolen because they are hard to replace. Another downside is that no one makes replacement rubber or plastic parts for these tops. The car was not equipped with WS6 suspension from the factory and wears Rally II wheels.
None of the seller’s pictures show the entire car. I guess you could print them out and glue them together if you want a side shot of the car! If this car was a W72 400 4 speed car, I think the seller could easily get there price but I think he is a little high on this one. What do you think?
Garage is even 70’s era too…………I wonder if they make replacement carpet for it?😂
The aftermarket T-tops hurts it. The 403 wasn’t that fast but it was faster than a Z28 of that era.
I had a 79 Z28 and I laughed at every 403 I passed or left setting at the line..
Picture 14 shows a view of the garage door, but the room clearly has a vibe going on…just not sure what vibe that is.
I can hear her now, “Aunt Martha wants to know if you want the carpet and drapes out of late Stanley’s den, she’s converting the space to a quilting room.”
“Sure! I have just the place for it! Sure will class up the Trans Am room!”, he replies.
I love the carpet on top of carpet in case the T/A drips. Its all a little surreal…
I call BS, those are just old photos of a Hot Wheel sitting on a couch.
Source: Me playing with Hot Wheels in the living room back in the late ’70s and early ’80s. It had to be on the couch as the orange shag carpet was obviously lava.
I think it is noteworthy that not only can we analyze the car, we can also poke fun at its surroundings. Good job GuernseyPagoda, Big_Fun and Ed Hardt.
The W in the Vin denotes the 4.9 Pontiac 301cubic inch motor.
CK1
The engine code is a K which is a 403 Olds engine. The W in the vin Denotes a Trans Am. I posted the link to the vin decoder below.

403 cars said “6.6 Liter” on the (fake) hood scoop so that’s been changed.
Boring.
Aftermarket t-tops are a disaster! Leak, leak, leak!! I worked at a Chevy dealer in the 70’s and they added these disaster gross profit accessories and they leaked. Had to wait for the company to come and take the car back to their shop and repair, customers were pissed!! Sales made the money, service got the headaches!
Photo 15 notice black plugs in rocker panel typical rustproofing at dealer.
Popular rust proofing during that time period for salt snow areas of country.
Not southern born cars.
Photo 22 the remains of the acorn eaten left by the VIN. PLATE. Hahaha
I wonder how many mice have been in the interior of car..mouse urine is a touch one..
No WS6 faded blue interior aftermarket T -Tops even the factory ones leaked.
Hard top cars were the best. Looks like power steering pump replaced + fuel pump + exhaust is not original. No catalytic converter in place.
Not worth the money byba long shot.
Probably a garage but if that’s a living room, there’s a guy with his priorities straight!
1) Seats have been reupholstered with the wrong material and in the wrong color.
2) Dash pad cover usually indicates cracked dash pad
3) Non-W72 (aka “T/A 6.6”) engine despite bogus shaker decal
4) Non- WS6 car.
5) Aftermarket T Tops.
Given all that, the price is rather ambitious.
Too bad about the price. $12000 I’d pull the trigger. Not a penny more. Had a 77 TA with those t-tops and it was a disaster, rattles, leaks…
