48k Mile Sedan: 2004 Ford Crown Victoria LX

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Originally known as the LTD Crown Victoria between 1980 and 1991, then simply the Crown Victoria beginning in 1992, I’m guessing it was a sad day for several law enforcement agencies and taxi companies when Ford finally ended production of these autos in 2012.  Ford even offered a Police Interceptor model, and with all the fleet use many of these cars saw, it’s sometimes easy to forget what a fine family sedan they made as well.  That seems to be the role filled by this 2004 Crown Vic here on Craigslist, with this one having under 50k miles and still looking sweet.  This sedan is located in the hamlet of Oceanside in the town of Hempstead, New York, and comes with an asking price of $9,900.  Mitchell G., as always, we appreciate your excellent tip here!

The seller says his Crown Victoria only had 27,800 miles when he bought it in June of 2023, so the odometer number total has increased considerably during just the past couple of years.  There’s no word on whether he’s the second owner or if this one’s passed through more hands, but the photos appear to show a car that’s been well-cared-for, with a professionally repaired door ding being the only bodywork ever performed.  The exterior still presents nicely all the way around, and it’s fun to see that the driver’s door is also equipped with a keypad lock.

The components inside seem to be as well preserved as those outside, with most of the interior remaining stock, including the AM/FM/CD Stereo system.  Those leather seats look comfortable, plus younger than 21 years, and I’m not spotting anything in here that appears in less than pristine condition.  The all-weather floor mats are a practical aftermarket addition, with another convenient and recently installed item being the remote start feature.

Power is provided by a 4.6-liter V8, which is said to have received full synthetic oil changes every 4,000 miles since it’s been under the seller’s care.  The transmission fluid is said to have been replaced in 2024, and with such low mileage, there could be many years of good life for the next owner to enjoy.  This one’s stated as needing nothing, and judging from the pictures, that could very well be the case here.  Any thoughts to share on this 2004 Ford Crown Victoria LX?

Good write-up Mike. A very good point about what a good family car these made. And as a point of comparison, for a bread-and-butter used family vehicle, I pulled up the RAV 4. This amount of money gets you one which is 10+ years old with 150k+ miles. I’ll take the Crown Vic.

Having owned a 91 last year box body Ltd Crown Victoria and a.95 MGM. I will say in both cases boy do i ever miss them. My 91 went up to 220000 km’s .before succumbing to rust.and my 95 racked up 299300 km at the trade in day in 2017. Both had their minor issues mechanicaly.speaking.but parts.were always affordable even downright cheap sometimes.and you could pull up at any repair shop with the techs saying wow something easy to work on.

Great point about NY and rust. This was in Hempstead on Long Island. Most of those people use public trans. because of the traffic,—it’s only 30 mi from NYC. Those people rarely see snow and are terrified to drive in it. Upstate NY, probably a fair of road salt, bring a creeper and spend a fair amount of time checking out the undercarriage.
