$4900 ‘Vette! 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Zoning ordinances in certain neighborhoods require that at least one non-operable car be parked on the property at all times, and this 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray outside Atlantic City, New Jersey certainly qualifies. Listed for $4900 here on Craigslist, the blue fiberglass classic “ran when parked” some ten years ago, and otherwise the seller paints a bleak picture of a neglected car and frame completely “rotted.”  Thanks to reader Chuck F. for spying this passed-over C3.

A popular cartoonist once illustrated several examples of “how nature says ‘don’t touch,'” and you can almost taste the spores that would be stirred up if you disturb the seats or carpeting on this once-immaculate ‘Vette. Though not the worst interior we’ve seen at BarnFinds, it may require nearly 100% replacement. Perhaps our Corvette fans can comment on whether a buyer might scavenge $4900 worth of parts from this long-forgotten ’69.

Rattle-can blue apparently covers what is probably rattle-can primer, some of both having ended up in places they should not. Early chrome-bumper C3s (third-generation Corvettes) bring a premium over the later plastic-bumper versions, but I’m not sure that matter much in this case. Even if you planned to drop this body on a modern chassis, the metal “bird cage” that supports the fiberglass body is probably shot. This can happen anywhere, but proximity to the Atlantic Ocean has likely accelerated this sports car’s demise.

Even in this sad state, the ’69 Stingray looks futuristic and fun. If someone ignored common sense and sorted its rust issues, the 300 HP 350 cid (5.7L) V8 would be a relative piece of cake to replace or possibly rebuild, and 300 HP would be the bare minimum you might expect from even a modest budget. It’s hard to imagine this one being saved, but never say “never!” What’s your top dollar for this East Coast Corvette?

    Didn’t know fiberglass could rust…

Reminds me of the free fishing boat my dad gave me. Only cost me $1200. Or the free trolling motor he gave me later on when I bought a new pontoon. Only cost me $1,000. Or the great deal I got on my 68 Mustang. Only cost me $30,000 after I bought it.

    “Complete car/ frame is rotted
    doors and hood don’t open.
Review pics for the rest / no keys.”

    Pretty much sums it up!

Call me suspicious, but there’s just too much wrong with this picture. Cash? No keys? Selling for someone else? Tow away same day? “Title in hand”… but not in seller’s name?

    Just no.

Typically for New Jersey. The frame was rotted when parked 10 years ago that’s why it was parked. Being down the shore in AC the streets where covered with salt all winter long.

“Zoning ordinances in certain neighborhoods require that at least one non-operable car be parked on the property at all times,..”

Interesting. So, must be a big demand for non-operable cars in order to meet zoning requirements?

If you could buy it for around $3500.00 and part it out it could bring some decent money. Not all of them can be saved, my late wife said, and she was right.
