The Fox-body Mustangs have seemed to be generating quite a bit of interest lately in the car community. Ford kept these third-generation ponies in production for quite a long time, beginning with the 1979 model and running all the way through 1993. So far they’ve remained mostly still affordable, and even the 5.0 equipped examples aren’t breaking the bank, at least not yet. If you like this body style, enjoy cruising around with the top down, dig the rumble of a V8, and fancy shifting your own gears, this 1983 Ford Mustang GLX convertible might be a good car for you. Located in Noblesville, Indiana, it can be seen here on Craigslist with an asking price of $10,900.
Barn Finds would like to thank reader PRA4SNW for spotting this Mustang and sending us the tip, and looking all around the car I’m having trouble finding much not to like about it. As far as Fox-body desirability goes, the only thing it doesn’t have going for it is being a GLX model instead of a GT. Even so, it is well-equipped and the seller says it has most of the available options, plus it has had a set of wheels added from a later 80s GT. The seller is the car’s third owner and says that the car is very original and in excellent condition, and judging from the photos everything is looking really good for a car that’s almost 40 years old. The body is stated to be in very good unrestored condition.
Things inside are looking nicely preserved as well, with that red interior complementing the black exterior favorably. Some easier-to-spot options include power windows and power door locks, plus I think that may be a tilt steering wheel. From what we can see, the convertible top also looks to be in good shape, although no word on whether or not it is original. Unfortunately, there are no photos provided of the 302 engine, which is a little surprising considering what a selling point the 5.0 is. 1983 was a good year for the Mustang’s manual transmission, as it was the year Ford introduced the T-5, a much-improved 5-speed gearbox that replaced the car’s aging 4-Speed.
The car has had a lot of services performed in the last 18 months, including new tires, clutch, rear main seal, carburetor rebuild, tune-up, and more. There are also no photos included from underneath the car, and no mention of the condition of the chassis, so even though the rest of the car looks exceptional I’d still probably inquire to make sure there are no rust issues hiding on the south side, as Indiana winters can be pretty hard on a car. The car comes with a clean title and a Carfax report as well. What are your thoughts on this 1983 Ford Mustang GLX Convertible?
Looks like a clean, well-kept Fox Body. Good to see a manual transmission convertible. The black/red scheme is attractive. If the car is as nice as it appears, price doesn’t seem out of line. The buyer will be all set for some summer cruising.
This one catches the eye and would be cool to see in a car show next to all the more common Fox bodies.
I like the ad copy, definitely owned by an enthusiast.
That’s a good deal.
Ford really utilized the dog-leg shifter
Good price for a super clean, 5 speed convertible. Very nice car, well written ad, this car will sell quickly.
GONE!
No Surprise. I’m kind of kicking myself for not jumping on it.
