We’re running across some unbelievable survivor cars lately here at Barn Finds, thanks to some eagle-eyed readers who send in tips. Keep sending in those great tips, folks! This 1966 Pontiac Bonneville can be found posted here on craigslist in Spring City, Pennsylvania and the seller is asking $16,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to T.J. for sending in the tip!
Pontiac offered the fourth-generation Bonneville from 1965 to 1970 in a two-door hardtop, two-door convertible, four-door hardtop (such as this one), four-door sedan, and a four-door station wagon. This one appears to have “Deluxe Wheel Discs”, a nice look but I’d want white wall tires on this car to complete the look. This was a top model for Pontiac and it deserves that elegant touch.
This car appears almost flawless, and I only say “almost” as a disclaimer in case one of you buys it and finds a flaw! I really don’t see anything of concern inside or out. I love the photos, they look almost like old slides that someone had in their closet for four decades, they have an elegant 1940s Hollywood glamour look to them, sort of misty and mysterious. They say that the paint is all original but has faded from gloss to satin on the top portions, maybe it could be brought back to life again? The best part is that there is “ZERO rust anywhere”!
The interior photos could have been better, sadly, there isn’t one photo showing the dash at all in its full glory, other than a couple of close-up shots. I know why, the seller mentions it has three cracks in the dash, bummer. At least they mentioned it, and maybe they’d send photos to any serious buyers. The seats look like new both front and rear, and they say that they’re all original. This looks like one amazingly well-preserved car.
This is Pontiac’s 389-cu.in. OHV V8 with a four-barrel carb, which had 325 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. It sends that power through a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic transmission to the rear wheels and this one “floats down the road”, runs quietly, and drives strong. This sure looks like a winner. I love seeing nice, original, survivor cars, how about you?
Brett Butler drove a car almost exactly like this in the opening credits of her 90’s TV show. Gotta love that fab MCM dashboard and the lucite steering wheel. Those “wide track” cars had pizzazz!
Beautiful car! Growing up we had a 66 Bonneville convertible and a 65 Bonneville wagon. The 66 has one of the prettiest dashes ever, in my opinion.
If I were in the market right now, this would be a winner for me. I think the price is okay for what you’re getting. Pretty much turn key. Add vintage air and you’re done. I know that these “should” have whitewalls, but I’m digging the sinister vibe of the black wall tires.
Right side looks a little wavy in the quarter. Maybe bondo or maybe just the lighting. I wonder if that paint could be brought back to life. Our 66 had faded from silver to gunmetal grey, and the detail guy at the dealership was able to bring it back to passable every year, saving a repaint. Sadly the 66 was rear ended hard in front of the house in the early 80s and totaled. Same thing happened to my brother’s 68 firebird. Dad widened the driveway after that.
I had a fully loaded Brougham addition that I loved. The car was maroon with a black vinyl top. I used it daily when I had to commute 3 hours to and from. I used this and a 71 4ht Impala. Mine died on the interstate in heavy traffic when a tour bus rear ended me. I did replace it with a convertible and have this cars twin as a parts car but with many more options. These are among the best looking cars of the 60s,” and there were many from all”. Properly kept these are dead on to drive. They have great power, 400th is bullet proof, great looking and comfortable. I miss mine, as it was a one of a kind to me and no doubt would still be in my collection had it not been wiped out.
$16,500 is way too high for a plain Jane more door Pontiac.
I definitely like the ’66 style over the ’65, especially the taillights. Sort of reminiscent of the same year GTO.
Nice to see the skirts,too.
Could the finish shine up? With new technology like ceramicoat may be possible.
I’m with Jim in Fla. on adding vintage air, especially with the vinyl interior.
Surprised this doesn’t have the 8 lug wheels Ac and more power options
Nice car not to my liking but it has style and the drivetrain is bulletproof
How could you possibly be surprised that it doesn’t have 8-lugs? They were not all that common, especially on a strippo. The car is basically a price leader. It doesn’t even have tinted glass.
Gorgeous!!
This is what comes to mind when one thinks of a big American cruising car.
The body styling on this Bonneville makes it look even bigger. Wide Track, Baby!!
I can’t imagine anything looking bigger, perhaps some of the Caddys from this era. I taught my girls parallel parking in a mini van (before back-up cameras), can’t imagine using this land yacht!
This is an exact copy of the boat the Noah had to build to save his family. Forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the animal and run for the big blue boat. lol
