53k Mile 1988 Buick Skyhawk

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 1988 Buick Skyhawk was marketed as a fun sporty car that was fairly affordable. Buick offered the car as a 2-door sedan, a hatchback, a 4-door sedan, and a station wagon. The manual examples are said to be fairly rare. The example at hand is said to have just 53k miles and is listed on Facebook in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts for $6,500. Thanks to Dennis House for the tip.

The exterior is finished in what can be assumed to be the original factory Scarlet Red. There are some major paint chips on the front and fade throughout. A small dent is present on the passenger-side door and the body panels seem to be mildly mismatched. The exterior definitely needs some work before this car is back to its prime. A sunroof has been added and the seller notes there is no rust present.

The interior is finished in factory gray throughout. The cloth seats appear to be in good condition. There are some stains present on the door panels. The cabin could use a deep clean and a detailing service to remove some of the stains but there doesn’t appear to be any major damages present. The only notable modification inside is the AAA sticker on the glovebox.

There are no images of the engine bay. A 4-cylinder engine sends 96 horsepower to the wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The car is said to have been stored for the last 15 years. For the right enthusiast, this car offers an excellent opportunity to own a low-mile classic. The car needs some paint work and paintless dent removal, but overall is in decent shape. The work that needs to be done should be relatively affordable. The sale price reflects the car’s current state and leaves a little room for repairs. If this 1988 Buick Skyhawk is up your alley, contact the seller on Facebook before it’s gone.

The Pontiac Sunbirds fraternal twin which had a bad reputation as being a lemon. I don’t recall ( no pun intended ) hearing that about these. But they can’t be that much different. Can they?

Had a stickshift ’82 Sunbird with the Iron Duke. Fun little car but was nowhere near the refinement of contemporary Hondas and Toyotas. Still, it didn’t give us any trouble other than a clogged converter replaced under warranty.

GM J bodies were disposable cars. I had two Cavaliers, both with manual trans, and had problems with them. The thing was they were fairly cheap to fix but with the quality of the parts the same thing would break six months to a year down the road.

I ordered dozens in this color combo.
I also did blue & grey, black & grey, and red with tan.
You could also get hideaway headlights.
They also had 4 doors, wagons and a hatchback too with louvers.
    Fanning Cadillac-Buick Chicago.

We had cavaliers, were great, but rusted, had a Pontiac 2000, returned after lemon law, motor was junk, we’re all the motors the same in Cadillac , Buick, olds, Pontiac and Chevy?

The T-Type version is the one to get, if you can find one of the few hundred that were ever produced

I guess I’m old enough now to see these as simply old cars and not really classics. My wife had the Cavalier and Connecticut Mark is right, it rusted out badly. I had one of the Pontiacs, the Sunfire. Very strange problem, I had a difficult time getting heat in the winter, 130 mile round trip commute. Flushed the cooling system 6 ways to Sunday, yes heater core too, new thermostat(s) too. Wound up blocking off part of the radiator with cardboard. I rarely complain about the price of a car, but I don’t see the value here. Maybe half the ask.
