53K Miles: 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

The seller is listing this incredible survivor 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme for their uncle, a U.S. Navy vet who is retiring and downsizing his car collection. First of all, please thank your uncle for us for his service, and then please tell him he has good taste; this car is beautiful! They’re posting it here on craigslist in Shelton, Washington, and they’re asking $14,700. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Curvette for the tip!

This survivor is said to have been bought new by a woman in Olympia, Washington, and stayed with her until 2023, when she passed away. The seller’s uncle bought it then, after the car was brought out of storage and gone through due to it having been parked since the mid-1990s. It looks like a new car; I don’t see a major flaw anywhere inside or out.

The third-generation Cutlass Supreme was made from 1972 for the 1973 model year until the end of 1977 when GM downsized a lot of their cars. This car is just over half a foot longer than the next-generation Cutlass Supreme, and they came in a four-door sedan and two-door, as seen here. Convertibles had disappeared for this generation, but I’ve always wondered what one may have looked like

Other than what looks like maybe some fading on the carpet and wrinkling on the side of the front seats, the interior looks outstanding. I’d always prefer fabric over vinyl for year-round comfort, but the seats look great, both front and rear. The trunk looks nice, but is that surface rust on the trunk floor? I’d want to see some underside photos of this car with that asking price. They also say that the radio, clock, and AC aren’t currently working as they should, so there’s work to do here.

Other than some surface rust and that red hose, the engine compartment looks pretty nice. This is Oldsmobile’s 350-cu.in. OHV V8 with 170 horsepower, and it’s sent through a three-speed automatic. The seller says their uncle uses it for weekend car shows, and just as a general reference, Hagerty is at $9,800 for a #3 good-condition car and $15,000 for a #2 excellent car. How much would you pay for this Cutlass Supreme?

        Ok. Let me try a shorter version. A kid I went to HS with had a mid 70’s Malibu this color. Super clean super low miles. We used to laugh at how it seemed the cars in shades of green like this had a higher survival rate because older folks bought them and took care of them. It may have not been too popular back then but I’d sure be happy to own this one now. The white interior looks fantastic no yellowing at all. And it compliments the green very nicely too. This is amongst my favorite generation of Cutlass Supremes ’76 and ’77 a little more than the earlier ones.

        I just purchased a working 1970s GM AM/FM stereo for $200. I don’t think this makes or breaks a deal. Yes, the A/C is a bigger issue, (but again, expected in any car that sat for a number of years), but anyone familiar with 1970s GM knows the clocks stop working after about a year. A car the sat since the 1990s will very likely have a non-working radio, as electrolytic capacitors will go bad after so many years without a charge on them.

        There will be other issues that any car that sat for that long will need some attention. Bushings, master cylinder, etc. Clocks and radios are small things.

        Sometimes I think we go a bit overboard on complaining about price just to make some kind of point.

        This is a very nice Cutlass at this price and is a fair asking point. Cars get what the market can bear.

      Back in the day there was another nickname for that green and it tied in with the unusual color of doo-doo excreted by very young infants. ;)

    When I was younger I hated light green. Now as I’m older I think it represents the ā€˜70s well on cars like this. I think the asking price is a starting point and when you argue the costs of fixing the AC and other things you can probably get it for less.

    Had the ’73 as a first car. Didn’t want it at first due to the size but it would get up and move and roll down the road much more comfortably that my current car. Clock worked and I seem to recall a thermometer hanging off the rear view mirror. Preferred the tail lights on the ’73 and our mechanic said ’73 was the last year before they changed the paint and they rusted away, particularly with a vinyl top. This one looks pretty nice though.

    Had a Salon 403 ci. And a 350 medium blue, wish it had a regular Powerglide with the rear pump instead and a high end gear ratio cuz those would fly on the high end with no problem than the regular 350 and 400 turbos and all it needed was a good stall converter and it would be perfect !

    Fox owner you are correct, we sold a lot of cutlass supreme ‘s in the 70’s and not many had the 60/40 split seats. This looks pretty well preserved.

    If it was fully loaded Black and Gold Hurst Edition packing a 455 and dressed with a Power Moonroof or T-Tops in this pristine condition, I too would have probably paid 100% of the MSRP!!!

    Dad surprised us with a 77′ Cutlass Special California Limited Supreme in yes.. emerald green and white interior. The sports wheels had matching paint, the vinyl top had a chrome divider through it, same 350ci engine. I wish I had that car today but mom traded it for a crappy new Accord. Although a earlier year, this one looks nice but do we really believe the old lady story? Look for snow rust closely…
