68k Original Miles: 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350

In 1975, it was hard to find a true muscle car on a new dealer’s lot. However, Pontiac was still offering the 455 cubic inch V8 engine in their F body Firebirds. However, it was only available in the Trans Am. Mitchell G. found this 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula for sale here on Craigslist for $23,000. It was just listed 8 days ago but we have seen this car on the market before. This car is located in Long Island, New York and looks to be in nice condition both on the inside and under the hood. The odometer shows just over 68,000 miles. Pontiac’s second-generation Firebird (1970-1981) had four versions: base Firebird, Esprit, Formula, and Trans Am. The Formula came in two submodels: Formula 350 and Formula 400. The Formula 455 model was discontinued after 1974.

The engine compartment appears clean and well maintained. The car retains its original Pontiac 350 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 barrel carburetor. According to the seller, the car was not used from 1984 to 2014. The Pontiac 455, previously available in earlier years, was only available in the Trans Am model during this period. The 350 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 175 horsepower, whereas the optional 400 cubic inch L78 motor was rated at 185 horsepower.

As can be seen, the interior is in top notch condition. The car features a two-tone white and blue interior. Available options on this car include air conditioning, automatic transmission, rear window defogger, and a rear spoiler. T-Tops have been added, as they were not available until 1976 and only on the Trans Am model. The Formula 350 features 15×7 Rally II wheels with aftermarket tires.

The blue paint appears to be original but is suitable for driving. The paint is Code 26 Bimini Blue. The seller notes that the car needs new paint and mentions a small rust spot behind the driver-side rear tire. The Formula reportedly drives well and is in good working order. The dual hood scoops enhance the Formula’s striking appearance, and the 1975 model marks the debut of the wrap-around rear window.

Looks to be an unmolested example of a time capsule. Priced to sell. The white interior is a dealer breaker for me.

Wow. Pretty nice for a fifty year old car. Good equipment and though the radio is gone the dash is intact. White interior is striking and looks to be in great shape. Fix the paint and enjoy.

Bird price are bound to pop sooner or later. While these were not rocket ships,
they handled better than their F body counterpart

Previously featured on January 19th, overpriced then, overpriced now. The pictures look like they were taken in summer, it’s probably been listed since then. It’s not bad looking, but a 1975 350 Formula doesn’t easily pull that kind of money.

What’s the difference? When it comes to malaise era sports cars l believe it comes down to sports styling. None had true sports performance of earlier muscle cars so it came down to styling Pontiac offered more styling excitement than GM and Chrysler. That’s why Formula and Trans Am cars just looked better and sell better. In my opinion and this Formula is a better seller than a 75 Vette. STYLING
