69k Original Miles! 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

This 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is largely a survivor, and at nearly 50 years old, this is one of those fortunate examples where original equals very well preserved condition.  I’m sure some of our readers cringe when a seller boasts that a vehicle is in original condition just to find out that many of the parts are original only because they weren’t replaced years ago when they should have been.  The owner of this ‘Vette says that the car needs NOTHING, in all caps, and while a statement such as this car needs hardly anything is perhaps a bit more accurate, it certainly needs very little.  If you’ve been in the market for a good seventies driver, this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible may be worth a look.  It’s located in Fleming Island, Florida, and can be seen here on eBay with a current bid of $15,200.

The seller says he purchased the vehicle three years ago from a now out-of-business Corvette specialist dealer in Ohio, and that this one was the second car he bought from them.  The owner also stresses he does not believe that this is an Ohio car, as the underside is extremely clean and solid, and there is nothing underneath that needs work or attention.  The car has received shocks, bushings, bearings, and other suspension parts as they were needed.  Outside, the paint is said to be original and presents well from every angle, plus there’s a new set of tires on those rally wheels.

Things under the hood are looking clean and tidy.  The Corvette still has its original numbers-matching 350 cubic inch V8, which has had a few updates such as a new carburetor and intake, HEI ignition, and headers.  There’s also an aluminum radiator to help keep things cool.  The original automatic transmission is still in place, as is the factory rear end.  No word on whether or not any of these has ever had a rebuild, but with just 69,000 miles, there may not yet have been a need.  The seller does mention that he replaced several vacuum lines recently and that the car has never run so well or shifted so nicely.

The interior is also said to be original and also looks to be nicely preserved, with all of the gauges functioning except for the clock.  The car is equipped with working power windows, but the brake lights are not working, nor is the air conditioning, and the convertible top could stand to be replaced.  The good news is that this is a no-reserve auction, so the high bidder will be driving the car home.  What are your thoughts on this 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible?

What he said. Only downer I see here is that was in the middle of the emissions debacle with low HP and poor performance and economy. Put a little time and money in it and it could be an incredible ride IMO.

I agree with Bud, the color is awesome and these Vettes seem to finally be a bargain. It is almost enough to shake my MOPAR roots. Good thing I can’t afford it or drive it with no license.

Those seat covers look original. I guarantee you the seat foam is dust. It was on my mostly original 73 coupe when I bought it 7 years ago. Nice car here with some good upgrades as the L48 is a boat anchor.

I have a window where I can see a nearby highway. One of the torments of my present situation is watching all the cars go by. It is too far to actually determine what kind of cars they are, so I make up in my mind what I want them to be. Sometimes that hurts too much after a while and I need to turn away, but sometimes I pretend it is me going down that winding road in a great car like this one. Then for a short while I feel a little like my old self in my old life. Oh what I wouldn’t give to be able to do that. Though, I know that it is because of poor driving choices is exactly why I can not. All you guys out there, do yourselves a favor and follow all the rules so you can keep on truckin down the road. Do it for Stevie…please.

A friend of mine use to have a 74 ragtop in the same color, but with a saddle tan leather interior. This is a very pretty car, but I think I prefer the contrast that a tan, or another color interior provides.

If it were mine, I would like it stock under the hood, or at least still have the stock air cleaner. 73-75’s came with a functioning ram air hood and air cleaner. Chrome’s pretty, but I can’t understand replacing the factory ram air system with an open element air cleaner, that can only draw hot, under hood air into the engine.
