One of the harder vehicles to price correctly is the best version of a model of which there are hundreds of decent drivers still for sale at a given moment. The Volvo 240 is incredibly durable and loved by enthusiasts, so it’s not difficult to find a decent example. The question becomes if you’re willing to spend a bit more for the best one you can find, as there’s a fairly wide chasm between a runner and a truly special example. This particular 240 wagon listed here on eBay is a later production 1993 model that seems to be exceptionally well-presented with lots of recent maintenance done.

Bidders seem to agree that it’s as nice as it looks, with bids to over $11,000 but the reserve still unmet. The black paint and red pinstripe is a nice touch, and the other small details – the bumper trim, hubcaps, badges, mudflaps, and lenses – all look quite tidy. The seller notes there is just one previous owner who took this Volvo to just over 200,000 miles, so the fact that it still looks as good as it does is a testament to that long-term caretaker. Of course, many original 240 owners will happily tell you it’s one of the best cars they ever bought, so no surprise to see someone go the distance with this one.

The beige interior is in stunning condition and likely one of the best features of this car. But it’s hard to capture just how much has gone into bringing this 240 back to like-new condition. In fact, I’m almost a touch confused as to why the seller seemingly performed a full-fledged restoration on this car as it seems unlikely he will ever recoup his investment. Mechanically, the Volvo has largely been completely gone through, with excruciating details noted in the listing, such as the turn signal lenses being “restored.” The interior has likewise been thoroughly refurbished with details like the lumbar support being rebuilt and the door panels cleaned, repaired, and re-installed.

This is one of those cars where you’re slightly bewildered the seller doesn’t include a link to 600 photos of receipts and of the work being performed. I mean, the description for just the water pump pulley is insane, with the seller noting it was “…refurbished, bead blasted, and painted.” That’s a level of OCD that is typically reserved for the world’s most exclusive and limited-production sports cars. That being said, everyone has their ticks and perhaps knowing he is presenting what is likely one of the best 240s on the market today is satisfaction enough for the seller. Do you think this is one of the best surviving wagons available for sale right now?

This one should bring a premium. These were great cars!
a real ‘flintstone’ mobile. simple, high miles, to some, over priced.
One of most hideous looking cars ever built.
Nah!
I had a 92 DL Wagon I bought from a mechanic for $ 2000. It was a great car for many miles. Great seats, amazing traction, smooth and solid. Kind of want another one. At car shows, teens would walk around my car and talk about new exhaust, wheels, and lowering it. I was shocked they would want it.
I borrowed one for a road trip years ago. I agree with your valuation of this Volvo. Great riding wagon.
I’ve got to do some thinking to choose the correct words.
I know nothing about this particular car.
Swedish Car Parts inc./Alexander Zatsorenko is the seller.
For a start. I suggest goog l e search for reviews and ebay feedback.
When I’m on my pc, I might have more about the last 3 years
experiences with him.
It was pointed out to me to use the filter function at ebay and look at the neutral and negative feedback.
the only thing good the swedes made were meatballs. their cars and furniture IMO really s**k
There seems to be indication that Volvo’s 3 point belt was good.
I sank one of these in Charleston SC 3am headed out for the City Marina and offshore fishing around 1994 – burgundy, tan leather – 5spd – hydroplaned off the highway into the woods into a swamp – culvert pump under the highway failed – completely underwater – swam out ( thank god roll down windows lol). Divers went in to make sure no one was in it – incident picked up by the Weather Channel. Boat left w/o me; that’s the rules if you are late (no cell phone back then). Had it towed to my downtown famous used volvo repair guy and he called and said he got it running! I think the tow truck guy stole my case of Old Milwaukee hahahaa. We called it “Wally Down”.
Yikes!
Back when I use to drip through junk yards to help supplement the income of the “Elmo Foundation” I made an absolute killing selling the fold down 3rd row seats for these on EBay. They hit the bone yards with regularity and the seat only cost me $20.00 and I’d turn around and sell them for 200+- plus shipping.
I must have sold close to a dozen of them over the years.
The next generation Volvo wagons, I couldn’t give the 3rd row seats away. I still have one in my attic.
Need one?
