You and seven of your closest friends can feel the wind in your hair as you glide down the road in style in this 1975 Cadillac Eldorado. This big, beautiful boulevard cruiser is sure to turn heads wherever you go. It is an iconic 1970s convertible: long, low, and luxurious. The Caddy is for sale in the Miami area. The seller claims the car has extremely low original mileage. This might be true. It appears to be in good condition, and even the plastic bumper fillers seem to be solid. This loaded convertible presents white paint with a white top and red interior. The white-on-red color scheme is common and attractive. Photos show the top both up and down, so we can presume the power top function still works. The seller does not mention the condition of the top, and the photos are unclear. The interior appears to be serviceable but the seats have probably been reupholstered at some point because they don’t seem to have the exact look as the factory leather. Although no pictures of the trunk are provided, that space is probably cavernous, even with the top down.
Under the massive hood, you’ll find 501 cubic inches of good old cast-iron American torque! In the mid-1970s, Cadillac offered one of the biggest displacement v8s available in any car. 8.2 liters works out to a fraction more than one liter per cylinder! Of course, this was the dawn of the emissions era, so horsepower numbers were not impressive. The seller does not mention fuel economy – for good reason, this is a thirsty beast. Expect around-town mileage in the single digits. Many people forget that this is also a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Any transmission shifting issues it might have will be more complex (and expensive).
It might take some time to get used to piloting this ship. Staying in your lane will require diligence, and parking this behemoth in a tight shopping center might require some practice. As with any convertible, checking the floors for rust is an absolute priority. The seller’s words are few, so this one will definitely need to be checked out in person. Are you up for the challenge? Had a 76 for 8 years and that’s not original upholstery. And after much work, he got it to 11 mpg. BUT they were wonderful years and miles.
You don’t buy these cars for gas mileage, you buy them for enjoyment … gas mileage has never been a consideration on any car I have bought – it’s just a cost of operation … my Lincoln with the 460, the Corvette with two four-barrels, the ’63 pickup with a 327 four-barrel, etc, were cars I loved … gas mileage was never considered … fun factor was the main reason … that’s why we’re here …

But many added them to their `75 & `76s.
We took many in on trade at Fanning Cadillac-Buick in Chicago in the early `80s.
A “shout-out” to a fellow car salesman in Chicago … those were great years before the internet … no “Monroney sticker” for trucks, Japanese imports on restricted consignment … sold Cadillacs at Durham Motors in Hammond, LA, then Toyota and Nissan in Baton Rouge and Napa, with a stint at Porsche-Audi in between … paid better than the analyst job I had at Illinois Bell and Bell Labs – I quit after they wanted to transfer me to Atlanta … retired in CA in ’09 at 57 …

The first car I ever drove was a 1975 Eldorado Convertible finished in Emberust Firemist. Luckily the top was down when I backed out of the driveway. My mother has always had excellent taste in cars.

Check out any Cadillac forums or parts suppliers. This car has a 500 cubic inch engine. There was never a 501. That came about by stating the engine size in litres, to sound more European.
You are wrong about the 500 but right about the 501. The actual CID is 509!

The 500 is a 500cid engine, not a 501 or a 509.
4.3 bore x 4.304 stroke x 8 cylinders is 500.02 cid.
The “501” on the emissions label has nothing to do with that, it doesn’t read “501 cid”, you can see where it reads 500cid in smaller print on the label.
The 501 is a divisional and engine emissions classification number, 5 = Cadillac, 01 = standard US emissions spec, or something like that.
I believe that was the same type of car used in the movie, Thunderbolt, and Lightfoot. Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges.

Horsepower be damned. That’s not what this car is about. Torque is what matters here. The last of the REAL Cadillacs. A cruiser of unequalled excellence. All those cubic inches equal complete smoothness in operation. I hope it finds a good home where it will be appreciated.

I had Cadillacs with a 390, 429,472 and a 500(509) and never ever got below a constant 12.9 mpg in Harrisburg. And I loved passing these little puddle jumpers.

Cadillac Kid, you never owned a 368 cubic inch engine yet? Between my late Father and myself, we owned about a dozen Caddies. The great thing about the 472 and 500, is when the car rusts away, you put the engine and transmission in your pickup truck!
Yes I had 3 Sevilles, one with a 368 and 2 with the Ht4100. Had all three for over 12 years with no trouble. What was your point?

It definitely looks like the hood came off a 77 or 78 Biarritz. The lettering on front and additional chrome pieces were not correct on a 75. It does look a bit odd with the chrome trim not continuing onto the upper doors as the would on the later Biarritz.
