This one is a bit of a head-scratcher. This “rust-free” 1971 Dodge D100 Adventurer is said to have originally been Sublime Green, which I believe, for trucks, is sometimes listed as Lime Green on color charts. The seller has it posted here on craigslist in Shoreline, Washington, and they’re asking just $8,000. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Tony P. for the tip!

Can you believe this truck is just $8,000? That’s the head-scratcher part for me. Even more so, if it was originally lime green, it’s a crying shame that it was painted this dark green. I know this is an easier color to live with, to fit in with the surroundings better and all that, but if this truck really was lime green, it would be about as rare as it gets. Even more of a head-scratcher, this truck was sold on “another site” known for its auctions in 2017, and it sold for just $7,650. And, these appear to be the same photos, so they’re almost a decade old now.

So, selling for just under $8,000 nine years ago, it’s not priced at just $8,000 today? I would have guessed this truck would be almost double that price. Although it does look almost perfect in the overall photos, the seller includes a close-up showing the condition of the paint in one area, so it does need cosmetic work, at least if a buyer wanted it to be perfect. If I wanted it to be perfect, I’d paint it back to the original color. The bed looks well-used, so that’s another thing. And is that lime green paint shown on the bed floor in spots? Dang.

Optional bucket seats are great, and these have had velour inserts installed. I’d go back to original material, or with a lime green return-to-stock color change, I’d try some fun plaid fabric covers. This truck originally came with factory air-conditioning, I think, and that was definitely an option shown on page 11 of this brochure. The seller says it isn’t working, and once you see the engine photo – which you already have, I’m guessing – you’ll see that this is far from a stock engine bay.

$8,000 for a truck this rust-free, with an engine bay that looks like this? This is said to be a 318-cu.in. OHV V8, which would have been rated at around 210 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque when new. Backed by an automatic sending power to the rear wheels on this D-series truck, this one is said to run, stop, and drive well. Here’s a YouTube video of it back in 2017. Any thoughts on this D100 Adventurer? This has to be a great deal if it checks out, doesn’t it?

As has often been been said “ If it seems too good to be true then most likely it is.”
Many of the astute readers that have experience with this sort of thing point out that old pictures are just that, and not only do the fail to portray the current condition of the vehicle they fail to portray the actual location as well.
Until one actually lays eyes and magnet to it, be very wary.

If it is the real deal someone needs to grab this 20 minutes ago!
If it all checks out, and the present condition is close to what is shown in the decade old re-used pictures, it’s a buy-it-right-now. But color me skeptical.
If it’s all legit, then let me ask the seller’s agent: if you can’t easily get new pics, couldn’t you ask someone (relative or neighbor) to zap you some? Maybe owner could slip ’em a twenty? Don’t know the situation, so trying not to sound critical, just asking.
While 8K may not seem like a lot of green for this truck, and sure, your friends would be green with envy if you bought it, but without an in-person inspection you could be green around the gills. Greener than a reflecting pool!
Here’s another staple in the making, Scotty= Dodge trucks and us truck nuts couldn’t be happier. Now,,,I’m all for inspections of certain vehicles, but in a situation like this, it’s pretty straightforward what you are getting. You aren’t getting some derelict Mustang out of a shed some greedy so and so wants to make a killing on,, that would certainly warrant an inspection. This, and all these types featured, was dads truck, and you can rest assured, there’s NOTHING wrong with it. In fact, this is one of the few instances where you could buy it sight unseen, dad wouldn’t sxxt ya’. And I’m sorry, I think $8grand is still a bit much, for me, but I suppose it’s the way it is. Another great find, and folks, we simply have to all chip in and get this guy a Dodge pickup!
Can’t say that it is true in every instance, but it has been my experience that in this day and age when you find nice vehicles that seem to be underpriced they are more likely to be found on Craigslist than FB Marketplace.
Many people who either don’t have to sell or are older will stick to Craigslist to avoid all the hassle of FB. Just like when Craigslist came along….there were still those who would go the Auto Trader route. Don’t know anything about the area but I’d be surprised if the locale isn’t made up of a good number of those 50+ with greater disposable income.
Either way, truck needs a good going over.
GLWTS.
Btw, Green rocks!
Hi Mark, I can say, Facebook has gotten a bad rap, like anything, for every action, someone is heck bent on ruining it. Why, I’m sure the staff has their hands full dealing with “those’ people. Thing is with FB,,,you have to look at the good part too. I have great nieces that I’ve never met, but with FB we can connect 1500 miles away. Friends I doubt I’ll ever meet up with again, I can say hi. Sadly, it’s also a good place to hear of folks that passed away, but otherwise I’d never know. I have no affiliation with FB, but CL seems to have become a bit stale, and FB Marketplace is teeming with stuff for sale. It’s actually overwhelming. And what’s cool, is once you click on a certain post, it seems like similar posts are directed your way, similar to the “notify” here. I got my Jeep from FB and was 2 towns over and a good,, not great, deal. The catch on FB Marketplace, is you have to be a member( no charge that I know of) to view any submissions that are posted here. I check out “vintage commercial trucks”, 500 mile radius, and it’s almost like a truck show with so many for sale. I like the price “slashing”. Many start out with high hopes, and then the “slashing” begins, many times, half the original prices. Try it, you may like it, just stay away from the “groups”, that’s where the trouble lies.
Howard,
I do have a FB account. I’ve also bought and sold on both CL and FB.
However, note that my comments were in regards to Marketplace as a selling tool and not the general communication between individuals. Agree FB excels in that area.
But when it comes to those who don’t have to sell or aren’t strapped for cash and still willing to pay to use CL to sell it may be an indication the seller is trying to avoid some of the “will you trade it for a dirt bike or Playstation”” 50 questions game.
very tidy looking dodge. you never see these. the ask price is very fair what is offered.
of all the trucks i had i should have feept the yellow dude
Hey all, I’m the seller. I reused the pictures from the BAT site because the truck still looks the same and they’re better than my old phone can take.
It’s cross posted on marketplace, but all the serious traction has come from craigslist. I’ve got a guy coming ~250 miles to check it out today. Now I know to hold firm on the price after reading the comments. Thanks!
Hi. I’m the owner. The truck and circumstances are indeed legit. I live on an island near Seattle. I’m older with failing health so I’m no longer able to work on cars. I’ve given the truck to a younger friend to sell after listing only on market place. He is more internet savvy and can still wrench. The truck has had several failed sales. Partially due to island location. It is in Seattle now. Great truck with unique configuration. Price reflects a wanting to make the sale easy for my friend. Thank you.
Hi. I’m the owner. The truck is indeed legit. I’m an older guy in failing health and have not used it very much since the purchase. I live on an island near Seattle which made the sale more difficult. I only had it listed on marketplace and it still produced a lot of flakes and several failed sales. The marketplace pictures and videos are current. I’ve given the truck to a younger friend who is more internet savvy and can still wrench. It is a wonderful, rare truck. Not a Dude but really interesting. The price reflects my desire to make the sale easy on my friend. Thanks for posting and for your kind comments.
Hi. Owner again. Not sure if my previous post went through. The marketplace pictures and video are current. Thanks for posting and thanks for all your kind comments.
My apologies, sir. This is such a good looking truck for such an incredibly affordable price that it just seemed to be suspiciously impossible.
Good luck with the sale!
Not sublime but lime green metallic. You can see it with the door open. Somethings not kosher, you might be in a pickle if u send $…
If these are old pictures I would be very cautious. I have seen several ads using old photos that in the end was a scammer. Even one that was on Barnfinds not that long ago.
Who’s to say, but seems like a legit ad where seller is offering to meet people to show it. Also, there are new photos, per the seller, for the BarnFinds people that didn’t like the old pics. Seems a fair price for a good looking truck to me.
