All Original: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette

It isn’t perfect, but this 1965 Corvette Coupe is an original survivor whose condition is impressive. It is roadworthy and ready to be enjoyed by a lucky new owner. Bidding has been solid, but not frantic. That means that there could be the opportunity to own a true American icon at a relatively affordable price. The Corvette is located in Crown Point, Indiana, and has been listed for sale here on eBay. There have only been 13 bids submitted up to this point, which has pushed the price along to $40,100. However, the reserve is now met, meaning that someone will be driving home in this classic very soon.

The Ermine White Corvette is in remarkable condition. If it is as original as the owner claims, then the 55-year-old paint has survived incredibly well. There are a few marks and chips around the vehicle, but there’s nothing of a substantial nature. The owner claims that the Corvette is free from any rust issues, which is good news. The external trim and chrome seem to be in good condition, while there are no discernible issues with the glass. The Corvette comes with a decent collection of documentation. This includes the original Owner’s Manual, along with the Protect-O-Plate.

This classic comes equipped with a 327ci V8, a 2-speed Powerglide transmission, as well as power steering. This Corvette is a numbers-matching car, and the only non-original component is the radiator. The engine produces 250hp, meaning the Chevy should be capable of covering the ¼ mile in 15.9 seconds. The owner claims that the vehicle starts and runs perfectly and that it has no issues. When it comes to considering classic cars that are offered for sale, long-term ownership always scores well in my book. That is because it is usually an indication that the vehicle in question has been treated with respect. Thrashed cars, as a rule, don’t tend to live for long in decent condition. This is a classic that I find very reassuring because it has been in the stewardship of its current owner for more than 50-years.

The interior trim gives me further cause to be optimistic because it is also said to be original and unrestored. Abuse or neglect can show readily on an interior trimmed in White vinyl, but this looks to be in impressive condition. The owner does note some slight imperfections, but if the buyer is seeking a tidy survivor that needs nothing, then this is worth considering. The owner states that everything inside the Corvette functions precisely as it should…except the clock. This is no real surprise, as these can be a troublesome unit. The next owner could choose to have the existing clock restored. However, finding genuine replacements is not difficult, and prices start from $230.

This 1965 Corvette is a vehicle that should impress most enthusiasts because it is a tidy and original survivor. If the next owner is seeking perfection, then this car doesn’t provide that right now. However, returning it to a perfect state would not be a hard task. Alternatively, just drive it and enjoy it. That’s what I’d do.

Methinks that, as this car has a Slip-N-Slide behind a base engine, bidding won’t go much higher. If it had fuel injection or a big-block, it would probably be closer to $75,000. I’m watching this auction to see how sound my theory is.

We used to call it “peanut butter drive”.
Too bad as this looks like a really nice car.

Extra points for actually having the distributor shielding in place.

It’s a Corvette, the clock doesn’t work…does the seller describe it as a “timeless classic”?

I don’t care who you are… that’s funny right there.

You can’t change it to a manual so you have to want to live with 2 speeds. I like everything about this one myself. If it wasn’t a numbers matching it would still be worth 40 all day long. I’m tempted to want this for a daily driver. Never lose a penny.

Good lookin wheels covers! Yeah baby.
I bet that glide will still be kickin for many many years to come.
I like the low weight & low power sapping of the trans.
If you watch the tach, “powerslide” is not deserved.
I assume this one is liquid cooled – hopefully.

What was GM thinking when they offered the Powerglide in their only sportcar?

We need to have something to compete with the (almost) new Jaguar XKE??

Because there were people that didn’t want a 4 speed.

Very few people know the real reason for the powerglide trans, the tunnel in the center floor was too small to fit a 3-speed auto at that time! a 4-speed manual would fit !

I bought a 65 Convert in 66 for $3600. One of the best cars I ever owned…and I’ve owned some nice classics. Even though it’s an automatic it will make someone a fun car…especially for $40k

why do people always backed up or powerglide it’s a really good transmission I’m in the use modified ones who drag racing with a hell of a lot more horsepower. and they work for a long time under the abusive drag racing so I would never turn down a car with the power by especially a Corvette

Pretty car that should make a pleasant enough cruiser. 40K is significantly over market for base model powerglide. Even if it goes no higher the owner should be thrilled.
