All Stock and Well Maintained: 2002 Chevrolet Camaro SS

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

After the last 2002 Chevrolet Camaro rolled off the assembly line, the fourth generation came to an end, but not before more than 600,000 were produced over a ten-year period.  While these aren’t particularly rare, interest seems to be increasing, especially in the V8-equipped cars and Z28 or Super Sport models. This 2002 Chevrolet Camaro here on Craigslist is a desirable SS example, and despite having exceeded 200,000 miles, you’d never know it based on the overall condition.  This one’s located in the beautiful Mid-Atlantic region of New Castle, Delaware, and comes with an asking price of $9,902.  Our thanks go out to reader Mitchell G. for sending in the tip here!

The Camaro would take a seven-year hiatus from the Chevrolet lineup after 2002, and while the fifth-generation featured a complete redesign with some cool retro styling borrowed from the sixties F-Bodies, the fourth-gen cars are still beautiful to my eyes.  I may be in the minority, but the new front-end added in ’98 with those oddly-shaped headlights is among my favorite looks of any Camaro from that viewpoint.  It’s not confirmed whether this one still has the original paint, but the exterior presents very well, and I’m not spotting a speck of rust anywhere outside.

Those opting for the SS package on their 2002 Camaro were treated to a very capable LS1 V8, which was factory rated at 325 horsepower.  Even after 206k miles, the owner says his Super Sport still runs, drives, shifts, and stops as good as it looks.  He also assures potential buyers that the car has always been well-maintained and believes there are years of enjoyment remaining in this one.  The only thing missing here that would make this one a bit more desirable is a 6-speed manual transmission.

The interior’s condition is some excellent evidence for the level of care this car has received throughout its lifetime, with the components looking far better than many examples with half this many miles.  Everything inside and out is claimed to be completely stock, and by 2002 Camaro SS standards, stock is fine by me!  What are your thoughts about this one?  Are the 200,000-plus miles a deterrent, or does the well-maintained status make up for all the pavement this one’s traveled?

That’s a good price. About 15 years ago a friend bought a high mileage black 1998 Camaro SS, he gutted the interior changed gears and torque converter and started drag racing it. He had well over 1,000 runs on it without any mechanical issues, driving it 40 miles each way to and from the track, until it got wrecked. He then replaced it with its twin and is still racing that one.

Is that black area between the taillights stock? Maybe a nod to the 1970 SS cars that got the same treatment.

    I had a ’99 Z/28 6 speed when new and loved it.

I have had my eye on these ’02 SS’s for awhile now. They are such a great bargain for the performance they offer. The looks are love it / hate it, I admit.

Make mine a 6 speed and much less mileage, please.

The price on this on has dropped by 1K.

I love black, but also looks good in red with chrome wheels and appearance package. Wish I had this one back.

I had a silver 2000 SS convertible w the 6 speed. Bought it w very low miles and enjoyed it for several years. It never ran as good as I thought it should (quickness) but man, did it pull the compliments. Everybody loved that car, especially women.

Thanks Stan. I walked into a Chevy dealership in early 2000 and they had this leftover Z sitting on the showroom. It was flashy looking and had every single option, including unique white seating that I had never seen.

The salesman said it was a cancelled special order and they had knocked a ton off of the sticker. Although I wanted an SS with the Hurst shifter, how could I say no?

I was coming out of an Accord EX that I got stuck with (ex-girlfriend), and I wanted to get back into something like this.

I should never have traded it when baby #1 came along.
