Almost On The Road: 1967 Pontiac GTO

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This Signet Gold 1967 Pontiac GTO is so close to being back on the road it sounds like a weekend’s worth of brake work would do it. This is one of those really cool cars that combines the great Pontiac “coke bottle” and “wide track” looks with the stacked headlights that were such a Pontiac trademark in the 1960’s. It’s located in Bellmore, New York and is being sold here on eBay. Bidding is getting close to $10,000 and there’s no reserve, so one of you readers can easily step up and bring it home!

The seller is very straightforward that some amateur body work is included with the GTO. There are, however, 70 extra pictures included here so that you can have a good idea what you are getting into if you decide to bid. There is certainly some rust included as well!

There’s the “coke bottle” side view. I love the redline tires and wheels as well. The seller notes that the car originally had a black vinyl top; I have to admit I’d leave it off when I attacked the body work and paint. And yes, I would–I’m not fond of non-matching touch up paint and the gold isn’t the original paint anyway.

The interior puts me in a bit of a quandary. The passenger seat and rear seat look fine. I think I’d find an old-fashioned upholstery shop that was willing to try to match the damaged panels in the driver’s seat as closely as possible and live with the rest While the carpet might be able to be dyed, I think you’ll want to tackle some rust before putting it back down or replacing it.

The seller calls this a numbers-matching 400 cubic inch V8, and has a lot of documentation to prove it. It does have an aftermarket Holley carburetor and headers, though. I’m surprised to see the air conditioning compressor, especially in a car that is now in New York. But I wish it were coming to North Carolina as a result. Any of you interested in this fine Pontiac? All you have to do is some brake work and you can drive it while you work on it!

As much as I would like this car it’s going to be a lot of work to get that body back in good condition, but then again you would have a #’s matching GTO with some Documents and who could ask for more. I’m just getting tired of bodyshop jail.

I was never as much of a Goat fan as I was for Chevelle. However, there was nothing wrong with the GTO and I sure wouldn’t kick one off my driveway. If I was looking for a good project car, I’d consider this. I like things that you don’t often see such as A-C, even if it’s a dealer-installed unit. Now if this ended up at my place I would likely do some changes to the A-C as I’m not partial to the STV system. Well it could always be worse but I preferred the VIR.
I would probably get rid of the Holley and install a Quadrajet as well….

You don’t see many GTOs in this condition. Most have already been restored or are basketcases. I suspect it will sell in the low to mid teens.

Highly optioned, desirable model, matching# motor, nice interior condition but o my the rust on this one. It will take quite a bit of work to arrest that oxidation.

Vinyl tops were pretty common from 67 thru the late 70’s on all cars.. what makes this GTO pretty unique is the Power windows and A/C Can’t say i have ever seen a 67 GTO with power windows and i have looked at a lot of GTOs one of my all time favorite cars… I was 11 when the 67’s came out and my dad worked at a Pontiac dealer…

I’m sorry, but, UGH. Gold is better than only two other colors: silver and white; and I’ve owned white (a ’70 Opel Kadet and a 2002 Infiniti G20) and a gold ’66 Olds 442 (tri power and 4 speed). I had a chance at a good deal on a used silver G20, but it was too friggin’ ugly, so I bought the new white one as a model year close out. All three of those colors are just so … meh. Nice Goat, tho.

The ad mentions that gold isn’t the original color anyway

I have no problem with the colour, beats pink, right? I can see more people being upset by the lack of a standard trany. Overall, this is a very nice car.

Looks like factory A/C. No need to repair the drivers seat upholstery, there’s repro kits that are correct.
