Alpine White Survivor: 1987 BMW 325is

As someone who owns this car’s near identical twin, it immediately caught my eye. This is a 1987 BMW 325is and it features the desirable sport package that is the option box you want to see checked on any era of BMW’s entry level sport sedan. The seller’s car features the ideal combination of Alpine White over black, and also has some rare accessory wheels known as the “Style 10.” Overall, there’s a lot to like here, and the seller is asking for a reasonable price of $16,800 here on craigslist and is located in Vancouver, Washington.

For a time, I had these exact wheels on my car. They’re a rare accessory option that relatively few BMW owners opted to add to their cars back in the day, and they’re hard to come by on the used parts marketplace. Do they add a ton of value? No, but it does suggest an owner who is an enthusiast and knows how to track down rare bits. The rest of this 325is appears to be bone stock, with all the sport package bits still attached: the rear trunk spoiler and the front air dam and fog lights are the tell-tale signs from the outside, with a limited slip differential perhaps the best upgrade of all. As an older model, this 3-Series has the large aluminum bumpers that appear to be in good shape.

The interior shows you some of the other bonuses that come with the sport package, including the nicely-bolstered bucket seats, and three-spoke steering wheel, and the factory premium sound package. The seller’s car looks just as tidy inside as it does on the outside, with no major damage to the seats, aside from the normal creases that come with daily use. The mileage is listed as 126,300, which isn’t time capsule-low but it’s low for the year. The dashboard doesn’t appear to be cracked, and a crack-free dash is getting harder to find on the used parts market.

The 2.5L inline-six is an overbuilt engine that is known for its smoothness and decent power, and has the added bonus of relatively light maintenance requirements. The seller notes that the must-d0 timing belt replacement job has been performed, which is essential given this is an interference engine. If you don’t get the belt job done in time, you’ll have a boat anchor of an engine in short order. The seller has addressed some other tune-up needs, including a new water pump, fluid changes, a new clutch, and more. The asking price is fair in today’s market, and will likely look like a deal as the collector car market eventually surges again in the future.

Just 15 years ago on the BMW forums we used to talk about the cost of stuff in terms of e30’s because all e30’s were $1,000 on Craigslist. “How much did that blower cost you?” “6.5 e30’s”. It was the running joke at the time. Now I bet I’m not alone in wishing I had snagged up ever $1,000 e30 I could find!

I remember less than ten years ago E30 Convertible’s going for roughly the same price I paid for an 08 Toyota Corolla for my kid last year. ($5-6k)

Pretty sure all US market cars had A/C. Even my son’s bare bones ’84 318i had A/C.
