Arnold Special! The Terminator Predator 1985 Mustang

Modifying a low-volume specialty Mustang may offend purists, but what’s done is done, and this 1985 GT350 Predator Mustang in Wichita Falls, Texas features far more performance than it packed in 1985. Thanks to reader Pat L. for spotting this interesting ride here on craigslist.org. Fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger will appreciate the Terminator Mustang engine and transmission transplant, so $29,900 gets you both Predator and Terminator in one Mustang.

Select Ford Dealers offered the Predator Mustang from 1983 to 1986. Mostly cosmetic enhancements and limited production (about 150  per year) appealed to folks willing to pay extra for something special.

My Aunt drove only Mustangs from 1964 to the late 1980s, a red 64 1/2, a blue ’78, and a silver 1985 GT with this interior, minus the Predator-specific touches like the wooden shift-knob. Other Predatory upgrades included a Monte Carlo bar, partial roll cage, Enkei wheels, SVO Mustang suspension, fiberglass hood, hood scoop, hood pins, and special stripes and graphics. Thanks to mustangattitude.com for some details.

The 2003 and 2004 Cobra Mustangs produced 390 HP when most V8 Muscle cars were happy with about 300. This supercharged 4.6L V8 features upgrades good for 500 HP at the wheels. If you prefer originality, it should be easy to find a 1985-spec 210 HP junk-yard V8, and keep it under a tarp in a corner of your garage. Meanwhile, don’t offend Arnold! Make him proud by flexing the muscle of this Terminator/Predator at every opportunity. “I’ll be back… really fast.” For the true fan, isn’t that worth $30,000?

Generally the term Monte Carlo Bar is applied to ’64 1/2- ’73 mustangs while a Shock Tower Brace is the term used for ’74up Mustangs…

Fast car, even comes with a warning: not for the amateur driver. Hmm, neither are most of the hot new cars they make nowadays.
Also not smog legal, with the off road exhaust, of course a hi flow cat set up would solve this…I guess. Mo’ money.
Sure is a clean looking machine, in and out, but I wonder if the car hobby is really ready for thirty thousand dollar 5.0 mustangs, especially heavily modded ones like this.

The predater and terminator names are smoke and mirrors, it’s just an early, not very desirable, “four eyes” Mustang with a later model drivetrain and an inflated price. It has cool parts, but it’s a hot rod/street machine that’s been pieces together, it has no special value as a rare collectable. It’s value should be solely based on the merits of the car as it presently sits. Pretty nice 2004/2004 Mustang Cobras are selling in the mid-teens, why pay a $15,000 premium for this car?

These fox body stangs have aged well, and the add ons distinguish it. Yeah 210 from a v8 still sounds pathetic, but… effects packages were a bigger deal back then. Even the ’77 Road Runner gets some respect in that department (though not always clearly sure why ). But whatever you get from the boxy look… goes very fast at least in a straight line !!

This car is for a niche buyer. Its clean and has a fan base but, not at all a 30k car. You would be better off spending 30k on a clean 93 cobra.

If that’s what you’re looking for you couldn’t build it for $30k although it would probably be close. Clean build. Buy and it go.

My name is Charles Lewis I am the new owner of the Arnold Special. I purchased it March 2020. The Predator in 83 only 8 were made 84 only 130 in 85 only 140 in 86 only 23 . Arnold Special is 138 and is a R code and they only them in 85. Predator/ Terminator is what it is. The car is a Tribute to Arnold. Someone made this car and didn’t know what they made. I would like Arnold to sign the glove box if he is interested. The car is one of a kind .
