The DeVille Series would be one of Cadillac’s best sellers, enjoying a run from 1949 to 2005. More than 55,000 of them were built in 1961 alone, of which nearly half would have been the 6-window hardtop sedan like the seller’s car. This auto must have an interesting history, but not much of it is shared. Though on the ground now and in the midst of a restoration, it was once inside an attic perched on top of other stuff. How they got it up there and then down again would probably make an interesting story in itself. Located in Hudsonville, Michigan, this project is said to be complete and is available here on craigslist for $6,500. Thanks for the really interesting tip, Gunter Kramer.
This is a hard one to figure out. Most of the discussion is about the car as it is today, but the visuals focus somewhat on the past. No complete photos are provided of the car on the ground which might make it a more appealing purchase. What we know is this was previously a low-mileage (33,000 to 37,500) Cadillac that once wore white paint. We’re told it’s a very nice luxury vehicle that needs to move on, but the nicest part seems to focus on a newly rebuilt engine (the original 390 cubic inch V8 that produced 325 hp?).
The seller says the frame is good, and all the good sheet metal is on shelves. So, you’re likely to be loading up a lot of individual pieces and boxes if you decide to finish this project. There is talk of a “beautiful” leather interior, but the photograph of it is an almost empty passenger compartment. The suspension has been rebuilt and appears to all be in place. While cash is king and the seller has already lowered the price by $1,000, a trade that involves either a pickup, car hauler, or trail bike would be considered. Also, a 1962 Cadillac parts car comes with the deal, but no photos of it are given either (I think).
Getting the car on a foundation block and power pole lift and off again is quite a feat of engineering. Almost like building the great pyramids.
Probably used a fork lift.
To much work and $ for me for a 4 door. Looks super solid though and a lot of work done to it.Who puts their car up in the air on cinder blocks and telephone poles?glwts.
To answer the writer’s question, I had a 59 with the 390, and yes, 325hp.
I would scrap what’s left of this car, not worth the effort. But, that motor looks to have been rebuilt, I would use that for a hot rod project or something, they were fairly potent, especially when not packing around a 5,000lb slug.
With the hokey cinder block situation I would be concerned about a possible “aerosol overhaul”
Keep engine, toss the rest!
Where’s the car?
I’m tempted to buy it just to get it off that EXTREMELY DANGEROUS “perch”. Cement blocks are not engineered to bear weight in this way. They might crumble at any minute. I wouldn’t go under that thing even for a Kit Kat bar!
But what about a Klondike Bar?
I was never very good at puzzles when I was a kid not willing to start now
Yeah, Klondike, of course! Something did not feel right about Kit Kat; now I know why. Thanks for the correction, Yblocker.
