Big Fun On Small Funds: 1950 Chevrolet Coupe

Sometimes when watching the collector car auctions on television it’s easy to start thinking that the collector car hobby has left the common person behind. Then I run across a car like this and I’m reminded that there are still plenty of collector cars around that don’t cost a lot of money. Sure, this car is nothing exotic, but I don’t know how much fun those over-restored trailer queens really are. This is a car that can be driven and enjoyed. You won’t have to stand guard over it out of fear that someone might touch it. There are no worries about getting caught out in the rain. Insurance cost would be minimal. It’s a simple, easy to work on, fun car that one could proudly display at local car shows and cruise nights. This 1950 Chevrolet coupe, located in Visalia, California, is listed here on the Jalopy Journal for $12,500.

  • So Fine 409: 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS

So Fine 409: 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS

Before the era of big-block Camaros and Chevelles, Chevy fans seeking high performance in a passenger car package opted for full-size cars equipped with 409 cui V8 engines. Drag racers favored the lighter and more rigid two-door sedan Bel Air and Biscayne versions. Those interested in both performance and styling opted for the more ornate Impala SS-409. This 1964 Impala Super Sport is equipped with a 4-speed transmission and the highest powered engine available in the 1964 model year, the 425 horsepower 409! Located near Raleigh, NC, it’s listed here on Craigslist for $32,500.

  • Factory Fuel Injected 1958 Corvette Project

Factory Fuel Injected 1958 Corvette Project

From the standpoint of appearance, the 1958 Corvette was more excessive than it’s predecessors. While the car still reflected the design changes implemented in the 1956/57 model years, the 1958’s added simulated hood louvers, nonfunctional air scoops on each side of the grille, and fake vents in the fenders behind the front wheels. They also had twin chrome fins that run the length of the decklid and quad headlights for the first time. Some folks favor the 1958’s because of the extra flare, some disfavor them for the same reason. It’s simply a matter of taste. This 1958 Corvette is listed here on Craigslist for $50,000. The seller will consider interesting trades. The car is located in Everette, Washington.

California Blue Plate Special: 1972 Dodge Charger SE Brougham

Want to stand out in a sea of red Camaros? Show up at cruise night in a Top Banana Yellow 1972 Charger SE and stand out you will. I know these so-called fuselage bodied Chargers of 1971 through 1974 model years aren’t as popular as the 1968-70’s, but I find them quite attractive. Adding to the attractiveness is the fact that really good ones can be bought at very reasonable prices. This car is a good example of that. Located in Bakersfield CA, this beauty is listed here on Craigslist for $23,500.

Pile Of Parts: 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible Project

Everyone has heard of TMI, Too Much Information. When it comes to cars-for-sale posts on Craigslist, the opposite is often the case. The seller says the body of this ’54 Chevy is in good condition. Interested parties will have to go look for themselves. You sure can’t verify that by looking at the pictures. You can barely verify that the car exists. The good news is the car is located in the sunny Tampa, Florida area, so a trip to view the car could double as a vacation. This 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible is listed here on Craigslist for $18,000 or best offer.

  • One Of One? 1963 Ford Town Sedan R Code 427 4-Speed

One Of One? 1963 Ford Town Sedan R Code 427 4-Speed

Driven by the “Win on Sunday-Sell on Monday” philosophy, car manufacturers involvement in racing rose dramatically in the early 1960’s. Pontiac was competing with the 421, Chrysler the 413, and Chevrolet had the 409 and later the 427 “mystery motor”. It was Ford that would be King of the Hill for the 1963 season with their new 427 cubic inch, 425 horsepower rated engine. The NASCAR season began with Fords finishing in the first through fifth positions in the Daytona 500. Ford went on to win 23 of the 55 NASCAR races and the manufacturers’ championship that season. This 1963 Ford, powered by the famed R Code 427 engine is listed here in Craigslist. It is located in New Bern, NC. The owner will consider offers.

In Storage Since 1973: 1959 Chevrolet Corvette

It’s a 1959 Corvette! Did you ever C-1? That’s my attempt at humor for the day. I never cease to be dazzled by some of the cars people have stashed away, not just for years, but for decades at a time. I never cease to wonder why and how such a situation comes to pass, too. Nevertheless, whoever buys this one will be the benefactor of all those years of being out of service. It’s very well preserved for an unrestored car of this age. Fresh out of 45 years of storage, this little gem is listed here on Craigslist for $32,500. It is located near Gadsden, Alabama which is in the northeastern part of the state.

Parked For 56 Years: 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Convertible

Can you spot the car in the garage? Well, there’s one in there, and it’s a 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe convertible. Buick had the Special and Ford had the Deluxe. I guess Plymouth thought they would one-up the competition by naming their top of the line Plymouth the Special Deluxe. Located in southeast Iowa, this example is listed here on Craigslist for $12,000.

The Boss Is Back: 1969 Mustang Boss 302

Boss 302’s were developed specifically for the SCCA Trans-Am Road Racing Series. They were all built with special high-performance engines that featured 4-bolt mains, screw-in freeze plugs, and special heads using a canted valve design among other performance-enhancing features. Only 1,628 examples were produced for the 1969 model year. Along with the Shelby’s and Boss 429’s, they are among the most desirable Mustangs in existence today. This particular example has never been restored. Located near Houston, Texas, it is listed here on Craigslist for $37,000.

  • Meet Woodrow: 1951 Ford Woodie Wagon

Meet Woodrow: 1951 Ford Woodie Wagon

This car represents the end of an era. The 1951 model year would be the last for Ford station wagons with real wood on the sides. Earlier station wagon bodies were almost all wood from the cowl back. By 1949, the wood had become mostly superficial. You see wood on the doors and quarter panels inside and out but sandwiched between are structural panels constructed of steel. Located in Waterford Wisconsin, this unrestored example is listed here on Early Ford V8 for $11,500.

Stashed For Three Decades: 1964 Corvette Coupe

Try as it may, that thick layer of dust can’t hide the beautiful lines of this 1964 Corvette coupe. It has been sitting neglected for 30 years but is now offered for sale here on Hemmings for an asking price of $35,000. This Corvette, located in Naperville, IL, is equipped with the numbers matching 300 horse 327 engine and 4-speed transmission. There’s a rusty old floor jack visible under the rear of the car. That’s the jack handle laying on the floor beside it. That leads me to believe that the car may have stored with the suspension unloaded at least part of the time.

  • Endura Delete: 1968 Pontiac GTO

    Endura Delete: 1968 Pontiac GTO

Chrome was still stylish back in the late 1960’s. Maybe that’s why the original purchaser of this 1968 GTO opted to delete the Endura front bumper in favor of the chrome version that was standard on the Lemans. We’ll never know the reasoning, but this is 1 of 2,108 so equipped. This oddity, located in Houston, Texas, is listed here on Craigslist for $11,995.

  • California Convertible: 1950 Ford V-8

    California Convertible: 1950 Ford V-8

This unrestored original 1950 Ford convertible, located near Phoenix, AZ, is listed here on Craigslist for the reasonable price of $13,000. For a variety of reasons, Ford Motor Company wasn’t doing well financially in the late 1940’s. Some people have said that these are the cars that saved Ford Motor Company from demise. Debuting in 1949, this body style eliminated the dated fat fenders and running boards look of the previous models in favor of longer, lower, wider, slab sided styling which eventually earned these cars the nickname “Shoebox Fords”. The 1949/50/51 models may not have literally saved the company, but the much improved and modernized styling certainly brought Ford back to the forefront when they really needed a boost.
