Baja Bronco Project? 1971 Ford Bronco

This 1971 Ford Bronco isn’t your typical project find. It has been modified in some areas and remains stock in others. It needs a lot of rust repair but seems pretty solid as well. It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of over $5,000. Located in Exeter, New Hampshire, it seems like this one might be a bargain. It already includes U13 door inserts which make a topless Bronco look sporty when the doors are removed. This sale does come with the original doors if that is more your style. Check out this project and let us know what you think.

Like a lot of first-gen Broncos, rust is going to be a challenge with this project. As you can see, the rockers are pretty much gone. I’m sure a bit of poking with a screwdriver will reveal even more issues. Hopefully, the frame is a solid platform to start with. The seller does say that the floors need to be addressed as well.

The interior has a few bits and pieces missing. By the sound of the ad, it seems the seller has several Bronco projects going at the same time. I wonder if some small pieces were removed for other projects?

The engine is a 302 cubic inch V8 with a 3-speed manual transmission. It runs and drives but the seller says it isn’t ready to be a daily driver yet. A new gas tank, sending unit and fuel pump have been installed along with a new battery. The sale also includes parts from a donor Bronco including a 289 V8 engine with 3-speed automatic transmission and front and rear axles.

You can also see a roll cage has been installed. The rear fenders are un-cut, which is a big plus. Overall, besides the rockers, this looks like a pretty good project.

The term “Baja Bronco” has a special meaning for those of us in the Bronco community so I was excited when I saw the title in my email.

Unfortunately there’s no connection between this rust bucket in NH and Baja. This one’s gonna need a new body imo if it’s safe.

    quite similar to the others.
Grab the vin plate & go to town w/the resta them.

Please – not too many “bolt ons” (Flairs, idiot steer column, exotic seat/steer wheel, etc). Get the basics and as you go along…search out some (what I used ta call – the trinkets) of the rarer parts – the eyebrow grill, chrome hdlght holder, the shinny grill surround, windshield/hood clip, ranch hand, chrome windshield spinners, removable window frames, “T” handled x-fer, add infinitum…
Give it more “rest0” than “mod”. Prices are beginning to match the other ‘classics” (ie higher mrkt value fr orig/OEM).
