Originally, Chevrolet had intended for the 1957 models to be all-new cars, but production delays held them up until 1958. So, the 1957 editions received a healthy facelift instead, including their now-famous tailfins. This ’57 Bel Air 4-door sedan spent more than 30 years in a barn before the seller acquired it for restoration. Time is a premium for the seller, so it will be up to someone else to lead the charge. From North Knoxville, Tennessee, this Chevy is available here on craigslist for $8,000, including some new parts. Another Bow-Tie tip brought to us by Barn Finder T.J.!
The Bel Air would be Chevrolet’s most desirable model in 1957 and the family-oriented 4-door sedan would be the most popular at more than 264,000 copies. The seller’s car appears to have been finished in Dusk Pearl paint (beige) and it may be two-tone with Imperial Ivory on the roof. The car is well-worn and its odometer reading of 35,000 miles could well be 135,000.
A V8 resides under the hood which may or may not be original and the displacement could be either 265 or 283 cubic inches (1957 was the first year for the latter motor). The red paint on the block looks newer which might suggest an earlier rebuild. Regardless, the seller says it’s a running motor and it’s likely paired with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. The fuel tank is pretty rusty, so the seller is providing an aftermarket tank to go with the deal.
As you can imagine for something sitting in a barn for three decades, the body has its share of rust. No mention is made about the undercarriage, so we don’t know how much metal will need to be patched or replaced. Bring cash and a trailer and take it home with you to complete the project.
When you are sitting behind the wheel, you can’t tell how many doors it has ;)
Woodie you are right on the money. I said b4 & I’ll say it again. Young folks with families are getting involved. They need 4 doors for kids. Besides it’s just like real estate, they ain’t makin any more!!!!
Check out Aussie movie Fast lane fever/Running on empty, one of coolest 57s ever,it’s 2 door convertion.
57 Chevys did not come with an alternator it would be generator.
They put aftermarket hose clamps.
I can’t believe it.
When I get crazy money I will buy all the ’57 two doors I can find and convert them to 4.
Already gone……
In 57 the 265 was only available with the 3 spd manual.
