Beyond Repair: 1969 Pontiac GTO

This week must be my week for writing about the wonderful Pontiac GTO. The examples that I’ve written about this week have been quite varied. This one isn’t the best that I’ve seen, but it probably isn’t the worst…although it is a close thing! Located in Ubly, Michigan, this GTO is listed for sale here on eBay with a BIN of $1,375. This particular GTO comes with a VIN, fender tag and title.

This GTO really is a car that is going to face one of two possible fates. It is either going to be a monster project for someone to take on, or it will end its days as a donor, with the remains in a crusher. The seller states that the frame is rotted, as are most of the metal panels. The one ray of light in this world of doom and gloom is that the GTO hood looks to be in good condition. Sorry to rain on your parade, but that doesn’t come with the car. A flat hood has been fitted and is what will come with the car.

So let’s talk about the state of the interior….there is none. It’s pretty bare in there, but there are two positives that can be gleaned from the information provided by the owner. The first is that all of the glass is present and appears to be in good condition. The second is that with the advanced rot and the lack of interior trim, this poor GTO will be quite light to tow.

The seller states that he believes that this is a numbers matching car. This is really a bit meaningless to us as this stage as he doesn’t elaborate on what motor it actually is. The engine should be a 400ci V8, but we don’t know which version or what transmission sits behind it, although it may be an auto transmission as the one remaining component in the interior of the car is a large brake pedal as would be fitted to a car with an automatic transmission. The seller does believe that the car has a Posi rear end.

As I’ve said before, any car can be restored if you are willing to throw enough money at it. Sadly I don’t think that this particular Pontiac will be gracing the highways any time soon….or ever. There are a multitude of components missing from this car. The majority of what is left is either damaged beyond economic repair, or is of questionable condition. To me this is a donor car. I think that her days of terrorizing the highways are over for this Pontiac GTO.

Only decent part the hood he wants to keep. Is he offering someone 1375 to remove from his property😀😀 all kidding a side not much could do with it. Unless some with no morals buys for vin tags and title to build a fake GTO

What a mess, not even good for a parts car.

It probably was a decent parts car before he stripped it.

Don’t see anything there as a positive, and i’m a pretty optimistic guy… Has a vin plate though. Interesting auction to watch… I could see someone dropping thirty five hundred . Fun to play the EE bay “price is right” lol…

You have all missed the opportunity here.

You’re buying the title, VIN tag, and fender tag. You built a Tempest into a GTO clone, and apply the parts I just listed.

      You got it!
I think that is PRECISELY what the owner is selling here.

Donor car? There needs to be something left to use. The roof maybe?

By the way, this post is a test. My next door neighbor Glen just posted and it showed immediately, but for some reason my posts seem to show up the next day, or never. Am I on some kind of sh*t list where the honchos here have flagged me so they review all my posts first? I wonder. It is Tues 8/14 at 11:33 AM as I click “Post Comment” so we’ll see if and when it shows up. Hopefully I’m just being paranoid.

All correct. Stripped out parts car. Vin tag. Probably worth the money. Anybody try to buy a parts car lately?? I sold a the most rotten 55 chevy conv , and the guy was tickled to pay the fleabay price for the top bows and Vin.

Good luck to the new owner!!

LMAO, this is a whole bunch of maybe and if’s! If the motor and tranny aren’t stuck it’s a good deal for someone already needing one! Other than that crush the rest that’s best!
