BF EXCLUSIVE: 1931 Ford Model A Farm Truck

While this picture shows this 1931 Model A farm truck as it was removed from a Kansas barn after 62 years of storage, Barn Finds reader Dennis F. from Sparta, Tennessee has now installed a rebuilt engine (the original one comes with the sale as well), fresh tires and a bunch of other parts to make the truck safe to drive! If you are interested in the truck, Dennis is selling it for $7,999 obo and you can use the form at the bottom of this post to contact him directly.

From Dennis: The Model A is a 1931 farm truck. It has so much patina and character, I decided just to make it safe and drive it. It has a new rebuilt motor in it [doesn’t have newer inserts]. The original numbers matching motor [with inserts] goes with the truck but it needs to be rebuilt. It’s on an engine stand with a transmission, radiator, etc — you can hear it run. The cab and bed are good to excellent — the fenders have much patina — it sat in a barn in Kansas for 62 years.

Dennis continues: It looks like the farmer parked it, walked away and had a heart attack. The frame is excellent. New tires w liners, new battery, voltage reg [aka cut out], new one piece fan, new clutch disk with springs, new glass except back window which is original and good, newer point distributor, new front u-joint, radiator re-cored, new floorboard, new turn signals, new fuse block, new wiring, new fuel filter. I will throw in the new metal top insert [$400 item].

The brakes work as they should. Orig ooougha horn is included but needs adjusting. A spare hood and many other spares go with the truck. This is just a great old running truck that draws more attention than my 57 Corvette. Parade ready. Clear Tenn title. Buyer is responsible for delivery although I may be able to help. I have over $11,000 in it but will take $7,999 obo.

It sure sounds like a cool deal to me, and if you think I’d leave the cosmetics completely alone, you’d be right. I love the look of this old headlight!

I’m sure at least one of you is interested in this great truck! If you end up contacting Dennis, be sure and let us know, and if you buy it, we want some pictures of you driving it in the next local parade!

A great find and at a fair price.

It’s amazing that to this day, vintage American iron like this old Ford are still being discovered in barns, old garages, etc.

Looks like a 30 radiator shell and 28 or 29 front bumber. I have a 30 pickup and it does draw attention. Best of luck and fun for the next owner

The only thing I would do is paint it, otherwise leave it original. I’m not a fan of PATINA.

Perfect the way it is. Leave it outside with the windows down, track mud in it, whatever. What a great truck!

Interesting. Yes the radiator shell looks like a 30, but it’s a variation I don’t think I’ve ever seen. To be specific. it appears to be painted primer gray, but also rusting where the paint has come off. Yes, I am well aware that AA trucks got mild steel (not “rustless” AKA stainless steel) shells, but the ones I’ve seen did not have that widows peak in the middle. They were straight across at the top of the opening. Anyone knowing more please fill me in. I’ve seen plenty of A’s, AA’s and parts for sale at swap meets, but I’ve never seen that shape in a mild steel shell.

I just like this truck. Has just the right curb appeal. Get it running and safe to drive like it is and enjoy it.

And somebody said the sunroof was a recent innovation! I love this. I’d do just enough to make it drivable, stabilize the body and have some fun.

To all of u who commented, THANKS! I especially like the discussion about the radiator—somebody told me it was out of a 30 Chevy ???? I did have typical trouble w it flushing water thru too fast but an aluminum beer can baffle fixed that. Sure wish someone would come and rescue ole Shakespear. Thanks for looking. re d.
