It doesn’t seem that long ago that if you wandered out to buy a new pickup, you would drive home in pretty basic transport with few creature comforts. However, manufacturers began to recognize that buyers might respond positively to vehicles that were primarily rugged workhorses but would also be comfortable daily drivers. That includes trucks like this 1991 Ford F150 Lariat Short Bed. Its V8 motor should allow it to cart heavy loads with ease, while its 4×4 drivetrain endows it with the ability to access some pretty rugged terrain. Its occupants haven’t been forgotten because this classic features enough luxury touches to make any journey an enjoyable experience. The owner has decided that the time is right to part with the F150, so he has listed it for sale here on Barn Finds Classifieds. It is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, and you could slip behind the wheel and drive off into the sunset by handing the owner $15,000.
There’s a bit to absorb with this Dark Grey Metallic Ford, and all of it seems to be positive. This isn’t a vehicle that has gone through the hands of many owners because it has only been a part of two families during its thirty years. That means it has a known ownership history, which is always a reassuring attribute with any classic vehicle. It presents superbly, and this is for an excellent reason. The previous owner treated the F150 to a full repaint in its current color from its original red shade. This shines beautifully, and the Red pinstripe offers a subtle but striking contrast. The panels are as straight as you might expect in any vehicle that has been treated with respect, but the most important news is that this Lariat is entirely rust-free. The alloy wheels are in excellent condition and appear to be wrapped in a nice set of Firestone tires. The exterior trim is in good order, and I can’t spot any issues with the glass.
The original owner ordered this F150 with a drivetrain combination that should allow it to be exceptionally versatile. A 5.0-liter V8 engine powers it, and with 185hp and 270 ft/lbs of torque on tap, it gives this classic the ability to haul some pretty heavy loads. With an automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes, slipping behind the wheel should be an effortless experience. The icing on the cake is its dual-range transfer case that should endow the Lariat with excellent off-road abilities. One of the great attractions of these F150s is the bulletproof nature of their mechanical components. Ford had decades of experience with most of the components that you find under the skin of this one. That means that with 124,000 miles on the clock, this F150 should have years of faithful and reliable service to offer its next owner.
If this F150’s exterior presents well, the interior easily continues that theme. It is trimmed in a contrasting combination of red and gray, with the seat upholstered in supple but hard-wearing leather. This appears to be in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or physical damage. That seems to be true for the remaining trim, the stunning red carpet, and the dash. The owner recently replaced the air conditioning compressor, so the system now blows ice-cold. Adding to the luxurious feel are some splashes of woodgrain, power windows, power locks, cruise control, a leather-wrapped wheel, and an AM/FM radio and cassette player.
This 1991 Ford F150 Lariat presents superbly, and with a known ownership history, it has to be a tempting proposition for any buyer seeking a solid and clean pickup. The owner’s asking price is extremely competitive, especially if you consider the vehicle’s overall condition. To buy an equivalent shiny new Lariat today would cost more than three times the price of this one, and the depreciation on that vehicle would be enough to make grown men weep. Treated with care and respect, the opposite situation would be true with this classic. Values continue to rise slowly but steadily, meaning that someone could become the next owner of not only a rugged workhorse but one that could also be a solid long-term investment. I can’t think of a single negative in that scenario.
I want it! Too high asking price.

I always liked the 1987 to 91 models, having owned a 1988. I got 11 and a half good years out of it. Straight 6 with a 5 speed, bulletproof.
I am the second owner on a 1990 Ford F150 short bed. Straight 6, 5 speed. It loves every gas station it sees, has had a hesitation when you start off in 1st whether hot or cold. Problems with the power windows, electric door locks, ect. It has over 300k, but it was very well maintained by the original owner. I parked it because I couldn’t afford to drive it and my ’96 Caprice. The car was much better on fuel economy, drove and rode much better. I had plans to do repair work on it, but my income and health took a major hit.
