Hiding in this garage, surrounded by all manner of junk, and covered in a healthy blanket of dust, lies a 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. It isn’t clear just how long the vehicle had spent in hiding, but this once potent beast certainly cut a forlorn figure when it was located by its current owner. He has cleaned and revived the Corvette, and it is now back on the road. It will take some work by the next owner to return the car to its magnificent mechanical best, but the result should well justify the effort. If you feel like you might be willing to tackle this project, then you will find the Corvette located in South Woodstock, Connecticut, and listed for sale here on eBay. Bidding for this iconic classic has made its way to $38,888, and the reserve has been met.
The Corvette certainly looks a whole lot better now, doesn’t it? The owner refers to the fact that the Mosport Green paint that the Corvette wears as being rare, and while only 2,311 cars rolled off the line wearing this color, it was not the rarest color in 1966. That honor actually fell to Tuxedo Black, which graced to panels of 1,190 cars in that year. The owner admits that the Corvette received a repaint at some point in the past before it went into storage, and while it isn’t perfect, it is said to look pretty respectable from 5-feet away. He also supplies a good selection of photos of the vehicle’s underside, and it looks dry, clean and free of rust. All of the external trim and chrome is present, and the vast majority of this appears to be in good condition. There are a few pieces that look slightly oxidized, but even if they can’t be polished back to their best, they are certainly acceptable for a driver-grade car. The Corvette comes with two tops, and both appear to be in reasonable condition. The Black soft-top fits nice and tight, and there are no signs of any obvious defects. The factory hardtop is finished in Mosport Green, and appear to be in about the same condition as the rest of the body. One interesting thing about this car is the fact that it will be sold with a set of regular blackwall radial tires fitted, not the whitewall bias-ply ones that you see in these photos.
Now we get to that moment where I have to break some bad news to you. When the Corvette rolled off the production line, it came equipped with the L36 version of the 427ci big-block, which pumped out 390hp. Hooked to the back of that was a 4-speed manual transmission. Sadly, the original engine is now a distant memory, and in a bid to get the Corvette back on the road, there is currently a 350ci engine under the hood. However, all is not lost. Included in the sale is a date-correct 390hp engine block, along with the correct intake and exhaust manifolds, carburetor, and other miscellaneous parts. The owner points out that the Corvette also wears a rear sway bar, along with the correct side yoke caps on the rear end. As an interim measure, the 350 is said to run well, and the car still drives nicely. Having said that, slotting an engine back under the hood that can propel the car from 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds, and is capable of demolishing the ¼ mile in 13.7 seconds would still be something that the majority of owners would be longing for from the moment that they first slipped behind the Corvette’s wheel.
Complimenting the Mosport Green exterior, the interior of the Corvette is finished in Green vinyl. It all looks quite presentable, but there are a few obvious items that would need to be attended to if the next owner wants the car to sparkle. The driver’s seat is showing some seam separations, while the tops of the door trims are looking a bit creased and worn. The carpet on the floors and kick panels is also looking a bit scruffy, but none of these would be classed as major issues. The interior is original, with no aftermarket additions or changes. Even the correct 80psi oil pressure gauge remains in place for the 427, as does the correct tachometer. When you look at what would be required to return the Corvette’s interior to its best, it really wouldn’t take a lot of time or a whole lot of money. In fact, bringing the interior up to scratch is a task that could easily be undertaken in a home workshop, and from my own experience, stepping back and admiring your work once completed is enormously satisfying.
If this 1966 Corvette was a pristine, numbers-matching car, then it would be a vehicle that could potentially command a six-figure value. It is neither of those things, but with a 427 back under the hood, it would still be a cool and potent driver. It seems that with 8 people bidding to this point and 148 people watching the listing, there are plenty of people who are attracted to that idea.

Sadly NOM stripped price on car.
Looks like a nice non matching numbers car. The C2 vettes are my fave models👍
Totally agree, love the year. But I think the price is pretty close to even value at 38, and it will probably go up…
Cue the viewers who think that garage was staged for photos……Ready, set, go.
I agree….and further, by way of extension, if the owner/seller will lie about the dust factor, then what else is he concealing? Either way, he must believe we’re pretty stupid, and if you believe he’s honest, then…..he’s right.
Barn find my butt
This is a Corvette I could own, without the original engine I could do what I want under that hood ! I’d build that 427 like the one I had in my Chevelle, a L-71 cam a tripower intake and aluminum heads ! Mine put out a good 425-450 HP and my Chevelle was bad ass ! To think about that engine in a light weight Corvette, damn l, I’d be in trouble with the law ….. Again !
$38,800 for Non-original engine? Apparently the Porsche-People have now turned their sights on C2 Corvettes. If true, it is a dark day.
Looks like a Honda Z50 leaning on the old girl
Haha, nice eye.
I like the color and being it’s a NOM it adds to the reasons to drive it. I couldn’t see where when the engine was changed whether the front springs etc was changed or not. It could be a bit harsh riding but then again it might not.
I like the looks of it but will have to see what it ultimately goes for.
Really like the color and I would rebuild the big block and enjoy driving it. Maybe it’s just me who cares if it is number matching unless you buy a car for investment, sell it a major car auction or show it at the very top shows? Could be wrong but most people love to work on their cars, keep them polished up and most importantly drive them.
I have a 66 matching numbers car that has been for sale for a while. To be honest, if it were nonmatching, I would be just as happy with it. Hopefully someone will buy it soon.
If that is a 50 Honda trail bike leaning against the car in the dusty picture he can add another $3500 -$4500 to his barn find.
It’s a Honda minitrail. Fold down handlebars, the exhaust shield and stinger, and the shape of the tank. I think I even see the oh so common dents in the front of the tank from the handle bars
427 / 4 speed corvette in my opinion is about as good as it gets!! I don’t really mind it’s not matching numbers that way it’s cheaper and I wouldn’t worry so much about driving it around!!!
What this car needs is a Chevrolet Performance Anniversary Edition Aluminum ZL1 427. Lightweight and powerful. A sound of their own.
Splash it and drive it.
Looks like a solid car worth the money. Good luck with the sale.
