Rare Big Foot Edition: 1987 Ford F150 4×4

Few vehicles were as widely recognized as the original “Big Foot” monster truck that could be seen flying through the air of indoor arenas across the country or doing parade laps at major outdoor venues, so it’s of little surprise that companies like Ford cashed in on the brand alignment given Big Foot featured a traditional Ford F-series body. While the monster truck went through several iterations, this 1987 F150 is one of a very small batch of pickups to receive this special treatment that incorporated unique trim and a lift kit from the factory. Find it here on craigslist for $17,000.

That’s all the money for a 1987 F-150, but very few Big Foot editions still exist that retain their original factory add-ons, original paint, and the correct graphics kit. This one checks all of those boxes, with the exception of a few features that were likely removed during a recall period that affected the Big Foot models. Originally, it would have come with an aftermarket bumper with a winch, but a recall due to fire concerns later traced back to bad cruise control modules, Ford decided to pull the trucks back and strip elements like the bumper off. This one retails its factory roll bar with off-road lighting.

The listing notes that the original owner bought the truck for his wife and that it’s been in storage for the last 15 years. That’s an interesting choice for a gift of the four-wheeled variety, and it honestly makes me wonder if the husband bought a gift for himself under the guise of giving it to someone else. Regardless, this is the sort of package many of us wished Toyota had offered when Marty McFly’s gorgeous Toyota pickup graced the big screen, so kudos to Ford for offering it in the first place. Many of my childhood toy trucks featured the Big Foot treatment, and Ford likely enticed lots of monster trucking fans with this offering.

The interior looks to be in good shape and the truck comes with the preferred manual transmission. Mileage is listed as just 87,000, and the listing mentions that the truck has been in storage for the last 16 years. These Big Foot editions are certainly hard to come by, and the “official” speculation is that just 300 were made.

While its collector value may be limited in its appeal now, I can almost guarantee a Big Foot edition would have been the cat’s pajamas when new, especially given how popular monster truck events had become. $17,000 is a lot of money, but where are you going to find another one?

Really like these. Were they just a run in ’87? I remember there was a posting for an ’87 ranger big foot edition awhile back…

I test drove one of these at the Ford dealership in Collegeville Pa when they were new. I’m not typically a Ford guy, but I liked the look of these. If memory serves me, the one I drove was an XLT Lariat Supercab. Really nice truck, but I couldn’t afford it.

I remember going to the dealership with my dad when he got his 87 F250 and saw the Bigfoot edition. I wanted him to get it but he wanted a F250 and they didn’t have a F250 Bigfoot edition. I was 11 at the time

So, these were official Ford options or fitted at a dealership?
