Black Plate 1969 Porsche 912

This 1969 Porsche 912 is a pretty California survivor with original (and rare) Olive Green paint. It is a California black plate car that resided with just one owner until his passing in 2018. The build sheet reads like a dictionary of every option you’d want in an air-cooled Porsche, and the car remains in phenomenal condition after what is obviously a lifetime of care. Find the 912 here on eBay with a Buy-It-Now of $90,000 and the option to submit a best offer.

The first owner was 25 when he purchased this 912, and he didn’t skimp on the options. The 912’s paint was a special order item, along with chrome wheels, Koni suspension, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sunroof, Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio, and more. The interior features black leatherette trim, which makes for an eye-catching combination with the Olive Green paint. Just look at this thing – how wild is it that we’re staring at the original paint, wheels, and glass?

Mileage is 117,900, making it all the more unbelievable that the 912 has survived so well. Not only that, it shows zero signs of rust or bodywork, and the seller notes it remained housed at the original owner’s longtime home in El Cerrito from Day 1. The seats appear to be in excellent condition, along with the door panels and carpets. CoCo mats cover the floors, and aside from what looks to be a small crack in the dash pad, there’s nothing to fault. Even the radio still works.

The 912’s engine was rebuilt in the 1980s by one of the foremost experts in Porsche engine building, a shop by the name of Lukes & Shorman. At the same time, the carburetors were rebuilt by Bieker Engineering, another recognized expert in the art of Solex carb maintenance and calibration. The 912 – now running 100%, with fully sorted mechanicals – would see less and less use, as the longtime owner inevitably grew older. It’s a timepiece, and one that won’t sell cheaply.

Porsche produced about 30,000 912 coupes and this may be one of the best survivor’s I have ever seen. The 912 was such a nice car to drive, smoother, softer, more forgiving, better balanced. Certainly the engine was much less complicated than the 911. I hope it gets another owner who will love it as much as the gentlemen who passed away.

Color looks like Yellowstone Park Co buses…affectionately called babys**t yellow. Nice looking Porsche. As I understand it, prices on air-cooled have peaked and are now beginning to moderate….Not enough for me, however

While I’m occasionally critical of 912’s on this forum, and I hate baby s**t green cars, this car is truly magnificent. And kudos to the owner for sure. The mileage is perfect in that it’s not 600 miles etc., where it belongs in a museum and and can’t be driven. Not that I would take it to the grocery store, but the perfect Sunday morning way to unwind before the work week ahead. Or a 300 mile overnighter on your favorite curvaceous country road. And restorers, please don’t make this a 100 pt concours car so you can add a trophy to your pile. I know it’s tempting to my car show friends. I know the Porsche haters will go on about the price. Blah, blah, blah. Get over it. For me, this hits the bullseye.

I wrote a check for a 1966 912 fixed window Targa with a 5 speed, radio and antenna for about $6000.00 if I remember correctly. I’m very sorry I didn’t keep the car. Time and the fortunes of men………..

This is a time capsule beauty. IMO it should be taken off “Flea Bay” immediately and listed on Bring A Trailer. Best place I know for exposing a car, especially a Porsche of this quality. Knowledgeable bidders with deep pockets and minimal cost to seller.

Even Canadian seems too much. Big fan of these, but we are beyond 911T money.

Waaayyyy beyond 911T money as I know from experience. But………….it is pretty awesome.

All the bells and whistles except dealer installed coolaire a/c and tinted windows. Still a pretty penny.

The seller uber_alles ( which I hope refers to German cars and not its WWII connotation) has another slick top for sale..both of which are selling (asking) waaaay beyond what my heavily optioned ’70 911T sold for in 2016.

        Sic transit gloria 912s!

Unless the camera is out of spec, or the pic doesn’t register well on an iPhone, there is no way this is olive green. More likely Bahama Yellow. Check it out here on the 912 Registry paint sample list (standard and customized colors) for all years 912s.

Is it my computer or does the car seem more like Bahama Yellow? Don’t see any green here and doesn’t match the color charts for 6835
