Here’s a 1966 Dodge Coronet that won’t appeal to the sleeper crowd, but will score big points with those who enjoy leaving no doubt that there’s some serious muscle going on under and over the hood here! Although it looks like all the effort so far has been put into performance, some good news is that this one seems to have a reasonably solid body as well, and with some cosmetic improvements, this would be one sharp Mopar. If you’re keen on the thought of owning this 1966 Coronet, it can be found here on eBay, with a buy-it-now price of $18,000. There’s also the option to make an offer, so head on down to Mount Dora, Florida, to check this one out in person before deciding how much you’re willing to shell out here.
Unless buyers stepped up to the Hemi, a 440 was the top engine for the Coronet in 1966. There’s no mention of what powerplant this one was born with, and if it was a 440, whether this motor is original to the car. What is known is that a BDS 6-71 blower has been installed, sporting a pair of Holley 750 double pumpers on top with Hooker headers taking care of exhaust duties. Dual fuel pumps and regulators should keep plenty of gas flowing from the cell to feed the beast, but be advised that the seller mentions some carburetor work is needed, plus a thorough looking over, as this Dodge has been sitting in a garage for the past 8 years.
Though the exterior doesn’t appear like very much work has been done in decades or washed in years, the body seems solid, and it’s good to find that there’s a fiberglass front bumper inside that can be attached. I’m sort of torn here about whether leaving this one with the beater look is the proper choice, or going ahead and prepping the body for some fresh paint might be a better option. Perhaps getting the 440 properly tuned-up might be a good first step, followed by some hard driving, then once that’s out of your system, maybe consider taking up the appearance level a notch or two.
The interior is pretty much all business, with the owner stating that two bucket seats are included, although only one is shown in the photos. Hopefully, neither will ever be needed, but there’s a fire extinguisher plus a roll cage for safety, in case that 440 gets way out of hand. A Cheetah shifter controls the Torqueflite, which sends power to an 8 3/4 rear end with unspecified gears inside. This 1966 Dodge Coronet isn’t for everyone, but if owning a supercharged ex-drag race Mopar is on your bucket list, I’m not finding the asking price of eighteen grand too far out of line. What are your thoughts here?

Thanks for the write up Stephens.
Aaaaa…. Those were the days… Brings a tear of joy to my eye. I’d tighten it up and leave it the way it is.
I’d leave it pretty much as it sits too. Make a few changes such as getting rid of the dangerous and cramped plastic seats, add door panels and sound deadening, upgrade the front brakes and maybe change out the magneto if it doesn’t work well for however much street driving this car sees. This definitely saw track time and has an early-80’s vibe, it’s still presentable, though rough around the edges, there is nothing wrong with that, especially when you factor in the cost of paint. It has the potential to be a fun car, for not a lot of money, that will draw attention at any event because it survives in a state not often seen.
What I don’t understand is when there is a perfectly usable car, that has a reasonable price and the first instinct is to spend a bunch of money on it. Which does three things, guarantees it will become a garage queen as it simultaneously wipes away its history (which makes it unique), which makes it less affordable for potential future buyers.

What’s the point of your comment, I never mentioned noise, or exhaust, just the car, in general and how it reflects how many cars were built several decades ago and are rarely seen.

You said sound deadening. That is for the comfort of those inside the car.
Sounds like Jerry got his doors blown off a few times by some fast loud hot rods !
There ain’t no cure for the summer time blues except this car!
This is so cool. To Michael: tear in my eye too, brother, to Jerry, they say you are getting old when loud noises bother you. It’s true, but even if I hear something like this in the distance, it warms my heart. Harleys at 2am, not so much, and BA, I love that song redone by Blue Cheer( 1968).
This car represents a conglomeration of parts from some back yard, not some dealer sponsored car. This represents a lot of ” no dice son, you hafta worka late” to create a monster that would send some hiding under the kitchen table. I read, this car could do 12.6 @109mph, and that, my friends, was mighty impressive for the 60s. I’d imagine well over 600 HP. Doing research, there was a drag car that was called “The White Elephant”, that was similarly equipped.
There is no smoking gun as to “wha’ happen’t”? A combination of factors spelled doom for this kind of activity, but rich are the folks like me that lived during this time. It was a heck of a ride I doubt will ever be duplicated again. Amen.
Stupid comments, I’m going to post this 20 times to show how frustrating this is. See, now that this one took, I’m going to vent again, staff can remove it after reading.
What gives, staff? Can’t you fix this snafu that seems to affect a lot of people here. Are the comments that meaningless to you? I may be the most prolific voice on this issue,( at 3am) but you have a great site and a frustrating comment feature. Adios, for the 27th time.
I hear you Howard, I had the same problem for three days!

Some grumpy old men posting today.
Love the old street racer look of this car! Get it running and go have fun with it! Put a milk crate on the passenger side and it could be used in a sequel to the movie Deathproof!
Love how there’s two batteries and a fuel cell in the trunk and yet probably room still for a full sized spare tire, hahah!
BTW, what the gas mileage in this? Hahahha!
Jerry roll up your window! I like em loud!
kinda makes you a jerk.
To soft heads.
david , you specifically chose this advertisement to look at and read about this menacing looking and obviously very loud car.
Then you call someone a jerk for liking this car and its loudness !
Dude you got issues !
Interesting if it was left stock it would be sold by now
I get more thumbs up when I am driving my loud car than I get negative responses. If that makes me a jerk then so be it, rather be a jerk than boring.
yeah I liked really loud motorcycles when I was in high school. I’m not in high school now.
Wow people complaining about loud muscle cars? Go back to your Honda’s.
That’s what they were built for so if it’s too loud go home. Unbelievable…….
It looks like it already has sound deadening in it. That’s what the earmuffs on the dash are for.🤣 Buy a pair of mufflers for the outside and everyone is happy!
