This 1993 Toyota MR2 is a desirable turbocharged model that has remained surprisingly stock with just two owners from new. Given the propensity for these cars to end up with modifications that are intended to enhance their handling, performance, or both, it’s rare to find one that hasn’t been messed with. Mileage is reported as being just under 90,000 and the car still wears all of its factory paint. Bidding is just under $10K at the moment with the reserve unmet, and you’ll find the Toyota here on eBay located in Texas.
The MR2 was originally purchased just down the road from my neck of the woods at Harr Toyota in Worcester, Massachusetts. Thankfully, it didn’t reside there long as Worcester is one of the snowiest places in New England and salt stays on the road near year round. The MR2 migrated to sunny and dry Texas, and has remained there ever since. The seller bought the car off of the original owner and notes that no alterations from stock mechanical condition have ever been made, other than a failed odometer that was replaced with a NOS unit.
The mileage has been carefully recorded following the odometer failure, which occurred around 74,000 miles. The MR2 retains extensive records from new, including every fuel fill-up and the original window sticker. Paint is also 100% factory original and still shines quite nicely. The interior is said to remain in very nice condition, with some wear noted to the driver’s seat and a slit in the headliner. The stereo has been upgraded with a period Nakamichi headunit, but the factory headunit is included with the sale.
The turbocharged drivertrain still builds boost nicely per the seller, and there are no leaks or strange sounds coming from the drivetrain. The mid-engine placement earned the MR2 plaudits in its time from road-test editors citing its spunky handling, and the factory turbo setup certainly livened up the driving experience over the naturally-aspirated models. The MR2 is one of those iconic early 90s imports that is emerging as a member of the next generation of collector cars, and this one looks like a well-loved example worth owning.
Just under 2 days left & it’s at $12,300 reserve unmet. Probably will go higher, no idea how much. This looks like a NICE car. What else could you buy for this money that would be as satisfying?
Nothing better in this class that I can think of for this $$$. It is a swell car. I like these and RX7’s. Later………………………JIMMY
