C-Code Stallion: 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback

The Pony car is an easily recognizable machine that has been cherished for decades now. Although some have weathered better than others. This 1965 C code Fastback is mostly there in spirit, but needs a lot of work to be road goer once again. Even though there are negatives to this Mustang, there are also some Positive attributes as well, like its original engine. With time quickly ticking down on this auction, this Mustang is currently bid up to $6,000. Check it out here on eBay out of Saint Louis, Missouri.

The original little 289 V8 is mated up to an automatic, and once boasted 200 horsepower. It is unclear the last time this thundering small block pony may have fired off its cylinders. There appears to be a new power cable for the alternator, but the seller has mentioned that the ground strap from the motor is “toast”. I wonder if someone tried to put some power to this mustang, and the electrical system gave them a shock?

While there are some interior pieces, there is a lot missing. Door panels, door panel hardware, and roughly 1/3 of the passenger side floor. There is also rot in the rear floors behind the seats. So, if you were brave enough to tackle such a project, you are definitely going to need floors, front and back for this pony. Ironically, it seems that the truck has survived with little to no rot at all.

The exterior is inline with the interior, and there is a lot of rot and rust to contend with. I would remove the quarters, just to have some vision on where and what to do moving forward. The passenger rear quarter is abysmal, and hold no real hope for salvage. The driver side is better, but it has been poorly repaired in the past, and there is rot on top, and in front of the wheel arch. While the glass is in place, the windshield appears scratched from a faulty wiper, and starting to haze/delaminate along its edges. The front-end components look useful, and I imagine the cross members, and suspension front and rear would be of use also. Is this a part car or a restoration candidate to you?

x2 your comments, Bob Hess. I would imagine if I told my very tolerant wife that I just dropped $10k on a new project and this thing showed up on a rollback in my driveway, well, I would be told to take it and myself to the nearest hotel to wait the word from her divorce lawyer. What a PILE! Are we really reaching the end of the first and second level projects and now down to this cannibalized bit of iron oxide?

Correction on the correction… See the Boss 302 comment. Not enough coffee on the other two.

No. Unless there’s something that makes you want to have this as a must, and you are a retired excellent body man, why would you do this? And the price is unrealistic.

Sold for $10,000, but the ad said the “Tires look good.” Unfortunately it needs a new battery ground cable?!?
