Cabriolet Coupe: 1977 Chevrolet Nova Concours

The Luxury Nova (LN) was changed to the Concours in 1976 and this 1977 Chevrolet Nova Concours Cabriolet would be the last year for the upscale Nova. This triple-black example can be found here on Hemmings with an asking price of $5,500 or offer. This beautiful car is located in equally-beautiful Burien, Washington. Thanks to beautiful Rocco B… er.. I mean, thanks for sending in this tip, Rocco!

I have said probably too many times that I’m a huge fan of special edition vehicles. If they come with graphics or other visual goodies that’s even better. This Concours has what look like aftermarket chrome wheel well trim, but it isn’t aftermarket. This whole car is fancy from front to rear – from the elegant-for-a-Nova grille treatment back to the chrome fender flares all the way back to the chrome exhaust extensions. About that, the “exhaust is twin tipped but not duals, there’s not any emissions equipement [sic].”

In case you’ve noticed the bigger wheels, they say that the “tires and wheels are excellent as well, the wheels are the wider 16″ like what was on a Camaro. All of the lights work as does the heater, fan and controls. The rear shocks have just been replaced with air units and I have new front shocks but they are not needed yet, they are included”. You may have also noticed the three-lamp rear fascia like the Caprice had, fancy! It has been repainted, too, and the seller says the “body is great, it was painted once in the early 1990’s using Dupont paint (at a cost of over 3k), I have the receipt and it still shines, there not any rust other than a few small bubbles on the botton [sic] of the drivers door (you have to crouch down to see them), the vinyl is also in great shape as this car has been garage kept it’s whole life.”

A gorgeous interior is included with the selling price! Wait, the interior is always included. The Concours was from the era when American car companies were trying to hit back at imports. Remember the Ford Granada trying to be a Mercedes? Yeah, that era. “International in style, it is American in function”, ’nuff said. The Edinburgh cloth with vinyl trim seats look great as does really everything else on the interior of this Nova.

This Nova’s drivetrain has been upgraded a bit according to the seller, the “original 305 has been upgraded with a Quadrajet 4bbl and an Edelbrock manifold, additionally a mild cam was installed (this was accomplished by the previous owner), by the way I’m the 3rd owner. The car came orginally [sic] equipped with a T200 and that was replaced with a TH350.” With so many hoses and wires in the way, I’m not sure if even a Concours judge, no pun intended, would be able to tell that this engine has been upgraded. They say that the AC “needs to be charged and I don’t know where to go for the older R34. The compressor kicks on and it runs for about 10 seconds.” In 1979, production of the rear-drive Nova ended. This looks like a super nice example of a last-year 1977 Nova Concours.

Not the coolest Nova, but definitely the coolest 1977 Nova. Seller sounds cool, price seems like a deal and it’s negotiable as well. Can’t go wrong.

Yep, sounds like the kind of guy you feel good about buying a car from. Unfortunately, wrong kind of car.

If this thing looks anything like it’s picture in person it is a serious bargain.

I had one these with a 4 speed and a 350 (L82) motor back in college in a rich red (almost a black cherry color).

That was a great car that really could scoot!

Neat car but hopefully the motor modifications has hot ruined the smog ability as in Calif will need to be smogged.
    Nice car!

Wow. Had a yellow 79. Was quite rare to ever see another Concours edition anywhere I drove but other than a few Nova lovers, just about no one noticed.

It was a dependable and fun to drive car, loved it, but as the current price shows, it really didn’t grab enough attention to be a desirable collectible as I sold mine 20 years ago for not much less than this.

I had a 1968 Nova and a 1976 Nova and I believe my Nova’s both had better looking stock steering wheels. This should have had a classier, More stylish steering wheel to compliment that nice looking dash.
