Childs Play: 1966 Dodge A100 Pickup

Radio Flyer, Western Flyer, or whatever brand you may have owned, most of us had a little red wagon in our youth, or knew someone who did. As kids we lived care free, although there are some perks to being an adult. For instance, take this way cool ’66 Dodge A100 pickup that calls back to your childhood! With attention grabbing graphics, this estate sale find has 1 day remaining in its auction. With 30 bids, the price is currently sitting at $6,465.65. Check out this cool Dodge here on ebay out of Flagstaff, Arizona.

This fast looking pickup is powered by a trusty 225 cubic inch slant 6. The seller believes the 47,975 miles to be original but I get the idea there isn’t any specific proof of this. The engine is fitted with a rather unique set of dummy long tube headers, which are fed via a single muffler with some rerouted pipes. There is no mention of the condition of the drivetrain, or if this truck runs and drives being a recent find.

The simplicity of the interior of these A100 pickups is charming. This truck has nicely reupholstered seats, and has aftermarket steering wheel fitted as well. Otherwise this interior is original and relatively clean. Unfortunately when looking into the interior you can start to see some condition issues with this truck. The door jamb, and front fender well section has some rot concerns, and someone at one point welded in a small panel but did not complete the finishing body work.

Also looking over the exterior there is some rust in the rear corners and sides, as well as the dreaded body filler of the automotive world. Bondo. The paint appears to be an older paint job that may very well have been an early Monday morning, or late Friday afternoon Earl Scheib paint job. The graphics really jazz up the looks and from 20 feet this truck looks just as cool as it appears in the ebay listing before looking it over with a magnifying glass. LED taillights, Cragar wheels, and some other neat features have been added to this truck, although the front and rear bumpers are missing. Despite its imperfections, this Dodge’s muscle style and cool graphics lend a great appeal that children and adults can appreciate. Which I think is fantastic to engage the younger generation that will be the next Barn Find hunters, and classic car enthusiasts. Relatively straight but a bit rough around the edges, would you play with this Radio Flyer?

Any charm will be cut away when the rust is fixed. The claimed forty seven thousand miles is hard to believe. LED tail lights and modern wheels and tires seems out of place on something supposedly built in the 80’s.

I adore it!!! My brother had a blue one in the 70s! I would burn around town in that rust or not! Time to play!!

I believe the intake manifold could be an aftermarket 4 bbl. unit, NOT “dummy long tube headers”.

I think long tube headers mentioned are the side pipes on the body.

Looks like it was a rusty. Old A100 that someone patched up and gave it a really cheap paint job .

I think with a little work this truck could be a decent cruise nite conversation piece. Anyone know who Wade Harman is ???

Apparently, Atlanta Falcon’s tight end coach. Unless the owner’s name is also Wade Harman it makes little sense.

is it true that if you hit the brakes really hard it will bring the rear end up off of the ground?

“There is no mention of the condition of the drivetrain, or if this truck runs and drives being a recent find.” WTH??? It clearly states in the listing:

“Mechanically she is strong. Super low miles – believe to be original. She starts, runs, drives & brakes very well!”

Anybody actually drive these things? I have. They were awful for a host of reasons.

Any body man worth his salt would NEVER put paint on a vehicle without addressing the rot in the sills & floors first. This is an amateur job with 10 gallons of filler, poor paint & a good graphics / lettering guy. Up close I would bet you would cringe.

Way to make a quick $3K. Buy low sell high, it’s done every day. A high school fried of mine had one in 1974, very fun around town, scary on the freeway.

there is or was a super six from the factory , it came with a special manifold for a 4 barrel carb and factory tuned exhaust headers , some even had dual exhaust , took power from 145 hp up to 200 hp + for the 225 cui slant six . to me it looks like this truck has one of these motors . I personally have only seen one other of these motors and it was in a Dodge dart convertible with automatic transmission , that one had duel exhaust and sounded mean when rev up .

a buddy of mine had a rust free one of these back in the 80’s blue with a 408 stroked small block in it. talking about hairy. this truck would do wheelies all day long even in curves, that’s why it was a thrill to drive. it was a 3 spd. strait drive
