Classic Drop-Top Cruiser: 1970 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Offered for sale on eBay is this 1970 Chevrolet Impala Convertible, a big, beautiful example of Chevrolet’s early-’70s full-size design and V8 power. The car is listed by Route 65 Sales and Classics, and according to the seller, it’s a well-maintained survivor finished in Forest Green with a white top and green vinyl interior. Showing 63,750 miles, this Impala represents a chance to enjoy an honest, usable classic convertible with room for family or friends.

Under the hood, this Impala features a 454-cubic-inch LS5 V8, bored .030 over, with less than 10,000 miles since its rebuild. The big-block is paired with a TH400 automatic transmission, delivering smooth, confident shifts and plenty of torque for open-road cruising. The car also includes power steering, making it easier to handle than many of its contemporaries, and is equipped with a factory AM/FM stereo with cassette, maintaining some of its original late-’60s charm.

The listing describes the Impala as being in good overall condition, with a solid body that shows only minor imperfections. The paint is noted as driver-quality, meaning it’s not perfect but still presentable and in keeping with the car’s survivor character. Likewise, the chrome, stainless trim, and brightwork retain their shine while showing the kind of light wear expected on a vintage car that hasn’t been over-restored. The convertible top reportedly operates smoothly with the push of a switch, though it shows some wear consistent with age.

Inside, the spacious cabin is said to be in good shape, featuring original-style front and rear bench seats, a clean dashpad, and the classic dash layout that defined Chevrolet’s late-’60s design language. Altogether, it presents as a very usable classic that blends nostalgia with practicality.

According to the seller, this Impala’s undercarriage, floors, and frame appear solid, and the car would make an excellent weekend cruiser or a solid candidate for restoration. It’s being offered by a dealer that specializes in classic and collectible vehicles and notes that financing, trades, and warranties are available.

A convertible Impala with a big-block 454 doesn’t come along every day, especially one this complete and straightforward. Would you preserve this 1970 Impala as a survivor or give it a full restoration?

Remove them prior to completion of the sale so you can make sure there are no surprises hiding underneath.

Terrible fit on the soft top, especially around the bottom of the rear window where water collects and just sits there.

Nice car…I had 1970 Impala (2 door) Custom for 12 yrs. I did body work, had it painted, replace carpet (with house carpet). Installed Sears (factory like) seat covers. Installed Kenwood stereo, a graphic equalizer , 100watt Sanyo amp in trunk, 10inch woffers behind back seat, Piezzo tweaters and 6 by 9 s ( to take up trunks big box volume) in back deck. I cover back deck and dash pad in (banyon) cloth.I sold the car for $1500 in 1987 with over 200k miles…..It was still in good shape for a survivor….Wish I had now….Probally could sell for $15 or more lol..

Lose the mudflaps, replace top and switch the 7″ Rallies with 15″ X 8″s and get a new exhaust with headers if they’re not already there. Too bad no engine pics?? You will eventually need to do a repaint but not bad for a BB Convertible. Back to that drivetrain, is it numbers matching?

My father bought one that was 2 years old from the owner and he paid $1,700 for the Impala. It only had the 350 with dual exhaust. But what a car. The rims look so nice on the Impala. My father’s was a dark brown metallic paint. When I got my license I drove that car everywhere. Brings back great memories. Nice find.

This dealer is in the northern suburb of Blaine Minnesota, north of downtown Mpls. by about 30 miles. They host a few car shows every year.
Not a bad car, interesting drivetrain. Like all of these, it needs work, especially paint. Hard to tell if it has a/c.
Not a bad price, but could be around 10g.
