Classified Find: 1992 Ford F-250 XLT With 28k Original Miles

From its sparkling two-tone paint to its extensive list of factory options, there is much to like about this 1992 Ford F-250 XLT. However, the icing on the cake could be the odometer reading of 28,000 original miles. The Pickup comes with extensive documentation and would be ideal for someone seeking a spotless driver or an eye-catching shop truck. It needs a new home, with the seller listing the F-250 here on Barn Finds Classifieds in Lakewood, California.

Ford’s F-Series vehicles have remained a staple of the company’s model range since 1948, with the Ninth Generation gracing showroom floors from 1992 until 1998. Our feature F-250 emerged during the first production year, with its original owner splashing the cash to order it in the two-tone combination of Bright Regatta Blue and Oxford White. Its presentation is almost impossible to fault, requiring careful scrutiny of the photos to reveal any minor paint chips and imperfections. The most noticeable marks are in the bed, but there is no evidence of abuse. Treating that area to a repaint could be a valid option, although fitting a bedliner would preserve the originality while protecting the paint and steel from further damage and deterioration. The panels are as straight as an arrow, while the underside shots confirm that life in California has left this classic rust-free. The trim and tinted glass are in good order, and the wheels have no visible issues.

This Pickup has over three decades under its belt. Therefore, expecting the interior to show wear and tear would be fair. However, while it would probably stretch credibility to describe its condition as showroom fresh, its spotless state carries the hallmarks of a vehicle that has always been treated respectfully. The cloth seatcover is free from wear and physical damage, while the matching Blue carpet is exceptional. The door trims and headliner are excellent, as are the dash and wheel. There are no aftermarket additions, although they are hardly necessary due to the boxes ticked by the owner when ordering this F-250. The new owner receives air conditioning, power windows, power locks, cruise control, a tilt wheel, a sliding rear window, and an AM/FM radio/cassette player.

Ford carried several engine options from 1991 to the new generation F-Series range. These included the 460ci V8 that we find under the hood of this classic. While the power output increased marginally from 225hp to 230, torque remained at 390 ft/lbs. This F-250 combines that V8 with a four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, power steering, and power brakes with anti-lock on the rear wheels. The original owner also splashed some cash on the optional tow package, further increasing this classic’s versatility. This XLT has a genuine 28,000 miles on the clock, and the comprehensive documentation confirms this. It recently underwent an extensive service and received new tires to ensure it is mechanically healthy. It runs and drives perfectly, making it a turnkey proposition for its new owner.

I can’t describe this 1992 Ford F-250 XLT as perfect because a close inspection reveals minor paint flaws. However, I can’t remember the last time I saw one from this model year that presented so superbly. It has no apparent needs and has avoided the modifications that are increasingly common in aging Pickups. It could be a practical daily driver, off-road adventurer, tow vehicle, or an eye-catching shop truck. It is days away from finding a new home, but are you tempted to make it yours? I will understand if you do.

Nice truck, for sure. A few of my acquaintances had trucks like this, right down to the 460 engine. Of course when the 6.9 diesel debued we all know what happened to the gas pots. No shortage of power. Run properly they weren’t all that hard of gas either. Owners who complained about fuel economy usually had their feet in the radiator so they would’ve gotten lousy mileage with a 300 six. I remember my ’85 Bronco with the 351 HO. I got into the mid teens which was okay. Most owners got around 11-12 but they also drove faster than I did. It’s all prespective.

I had a 92 F250 XLT with the 460. Best mileage I ever got was on a trip going no faster than 60mph. 13mpg was all I got. When I moved to California to build a house local driving was about 7-8 mpg. I could literally see the fuel gauge move from one end of town to the other. That was the only reason for selling my trusty steed. I found a 04 F250 XLT single cab in LA with the 5.4. Still own the same truck today and it’s been the longest owned vehicle and the most reliable of anything I have owned. Even after doing a 6.0 Powerstroke and 4X4 conversion 6 years ago. No, they don’t build them like they used to.

Always get a little skeptical when I see the original Ford 4×4 decal gone off the rear bed panel.
Usually signifies there was body work done for whatever reason.
Overall a very nice truck I have a 1997 f250 extended cab powerstroke and people in my town are chomping at the bits to buy it LOL.

Hi Greg, thanks for your comment on the Ford. On the window sticker option it shows 4X4 Decal Delete as an option, no body work. Thanks again!

Hi Greg, Window sticker shows it was optioned with 4X4 Decal Delete. Basically left the dealership with no decals, no body work done & thanks for the input & compliment of the Ford!

The 4×4 stickers on the bed were deleted from the factory that’s why they aren’t on the truck. Look at the original window sticker on the auction site… …
I have seen these deleted from factory before

Love the truck but hate those mirrors. Theres a 91 F250 on my local marketplace right now. 460 5 spd manual 2wd that i’d love to buy, but the mirrors kill it for me. Too wide for my garage and if they ever do get hit by someone in a parking lot, etc, they tend to dent that door. Those 460s run forever

You can change the mirrors. It doesn’t have to be a deal breaker.

I had a 96 F350 460, 5 SPD. It had a set of Q85 Buckshot mudders. They were the loudest tires I’ve ever heard. I couldn’t hear the radio or talk on my cell phone with the windows down. They didn’t last 10,000 miles. They were worn slap out. I replaced them with a set of 35×15.50 Super Swampers on a set of 16.5 x 12 Alcoa wheels. I had to space the front bumper out to clear the tires to keep from rubbing. That was the only modification I had to do. No lift was required. It would pull a brick house down if could get traction. Lol. Great truck but gas milage was around 8 to 10 mpg no matter what I was doing. Pulling a trailer or nothing at all.
