Cool Collection of Classic Cars (and Trucks)

There can be a fine line between hoarding and collecting. There can also be wide varieties of opinions on what constitutes an eye-sore vs. a collection of really cool projects. Depending on where you live, there are various laws and regulations that can limit these collections. It seems that is the case here.  The ad found here on Craigslist doesn’t have a lot of information besides the fact that the sale is “due to county property enforcement.”  You can bet the owner has probably had a legal battle with the leaders near Oak Hills, California and now the collection has to be liquidated. Thanks to Barn Finds reader dirtyharry for the tip.

Here you can see a fat-fender Ford pickup from the mid 1950’s. It appears several different trucks were combined into a “complete” truck. There is pretty much a project for all tastes on this property. The other vehicles include: a 50’s Ford sedan, a 5th generation Ford pickup, several 50’s era Chevrolet pickups, a Shoebox Chevy, and some 70’s vintage sedans. The ad doesn’t have prices listed, but there may be some good deals to be had if the seller is on a deadline to clean up his property.

Here is a mid 50’s Chevrolet pickup. It appears that most of the parts for the truck are included in the bed. Based on the few photos in the ad, it looks like these vehicles are mostly rust-free and dry. It’s a shame that the owner can’t keep them, but hopefully the money raised from the sales can be of some comfort. If you could pick one of these projects, which one would you choose?

The cars have probably been there for years if not decades. When this yard first started up it was probably a salvage yard, and likely ten miles out of town on a side road. It’s just like with wild life mans constant construction has cause the distruction of habitat for many an old salvage yard, oh and for wild life too. It doesn’t seem fair when your there first and some city dwellers come along and shut you down. I think that if the city wants you out of there then they should pay to replace your property another twenty miles out of town and pay for your stuff to be moved out there. That would seem more fair, besides you would get a chance to reorganize your stuff and get rid of some of the real Junkers.

But you are a Canadian and expect the government to pay for EVERYTHING. We at least resist that in our country which is the reason we build these great products that the world covets.

And yet the county once again proves that “Resistance is futile.” :-)

We Canadians prefer to work colaboratively with fair play et al, rather than lubricating the wheels of the legal system. But you are welcome to keep all of your lawyers, shucks, you can even have some of ours if you want.

Your wrong most Canadians are hard workers not looking for a hand out. We are pretty dam innovative too. Don’t think you guys hold a monopoly on innovation. Canada has only 35 million not the over 400 million in the US so your comparison is a little one sided I’m not going to get out the tar brush but some of you Americans are down write arrogant. You completely missed the point on this one Dave. All I was saying is the guy with the yard was there first and has spent his money to be there. So why should he have to pay to move or be forced to see his property. If the county wants him gone than maybe they should pony up.

Collection to me is a group of cars, all of which run and are at least in fairly good condition. This is hoarding, plain and simple. Not saying it’s wrong, just differentiating between the two.

At least from the pictures, it hardly looks like an eyesore condition. Most of the cars appear to be under cover.

We were issued a “Non Compliance Order” by Riverhead Township for having 3 1950 Ford F5 farm trucks stored behind our barn, they are used in the spring and fall only. . .out of view from the street. The township used a drone to find them and issued a summons. Shows you don’t need new neighbors to complain. Seems that many municipalities use drones and Google earth to search for what they feel are” usage violations” or a ” private nuisance” that will raise money for them or drive you out. Can’t work your farm without equipment, but can’t store equipment with out harassment.

Well its fair to assume that the seller could never get to these and hasn’t in the past. That said and the merits of County Code Enforcement aside. folks like the seller keep other cars going by “storing” cars to be used as parts..so props to him for holding on to these as long as he or she did. That Ford Sport Custom truck looks worthwhile as does the ’56? Pontiac in primer….

Top pick for me is, take the 394 or 425 (probably a 330, in reality) from the gold ’63-’64 Olds and drop it in the Studebaker pickup, or the ’56 Custom cab Ford pickup. The big back window Chevy cabs are likely worth some $$$$ if the glass is included. Love the Mark VII wheel on the late Forties Ford. Toronado doesn’t look too far gone.

Seems like a violation of fair use. If the land was less than an acre or so and you could see all this from the street, then maybe enforcement applies. But this is a job for Homeowners associations, not county government.

Yes Dave, we do expect the government to pay for everything. Our gas is $5.32 a U.S. gallon for gas today. Most of that is tax money. We are taxed on alcohol, cigarettes, cars, houses and services. We are charged taxes by the city, the province and the country. So we are not getting a free ride. We have already paid for it with our taxes.

Yes Dave, we kind of do expect the Government to pay for everything. Today gas is $5.32 for a U.S. gallon of regular. Most of that money is tax. We pay heavy tax on alcohol, cigarettes, cars, homes, land and services. Nothing escapes the tax man. Most people are lucky to bring home 60 cents from every dollar earned. So we are not looking for a free ride. We already paid for it in advance.🇨🇦
