Looking to jump into Summer with an eye-catching ride that’s ready to hit the street? This trophy-winning custom 1997 Chevrolet Corvette in Weeki Wachee, Florida could be just the ticket. The listing here on Barn Finds Classifieds features many pictures including the car basking with its awards and trophies. The seller claims to have invested $30,000 in this beauty, and that’s easy to imagine. At the asking price of $22,000 and a mere 55,000 miles on the clock, this sharp Chevy stands ready to draw the right kind attention for years to come.
The modified panels give this 20th-century ‘Vette a much newer appearance while preserving the immediate recognition that Corvettes enjoy around the globe. Even the turn signals are smoked! Later-model Z06 wheels in chrome make a stylish update. Custom exhaust and a lowered suspension elevate the already awesome stock performance to another level of cool.
The mostly-stock 5.7L (345 cid) first-year LS1 V8 makes at least 345 HP and a tire-shredding 350 ft-lb of torque. You could eat off the engine, but who would insult America’s Sports Car that way? Corvette novices would never believe this is a 23-year-old classic. Sure; today’s ‘Vettes have crazy horsepower and ridiculous technology, but few owners will ever out-drive this tricked-out C5.
Sometimes it seemed like every GM from the late ’90s to early 2000s featured a light gray interior, but the black dash and door panels add contrast, and this one has clearly soaked up enough Armor-All to resist the effects of the Florida sun. Those leather seats invite you to settle in and punch the gas just to feel and hear that V8 power, over and over again. A year from now everyone will walk past a new C8 Corvette to get the story on this custom silver C5. Show me a new car that makes this kind of impression for $22,000! Would you prefer a new car under $20,000 or this low-mileage trophy-winner?
Sorry, not feeling the love for this one. That nose is ghastly. It looks like a Subaru Tribeca.
Awww, c’mon…Would be a perfect San Francisco sidewalk cleaner!
The Tribeca was the first thing I thought of, too !
Didn’t work on the Subaru, doesn’t really work here either.
Great looking car and immaculately kept. You don’t see many 97 models out there.
Catches attention alright, but that’s like saying that a flaming bag of dog turds has an aromatic fragrance. Yes, but…
You can go too far with body mods. I paid half that last fall for my silver ’99
Yo Adrian!! Where-jya put my gold chain?
Hogs win prizes at County Fairs. Big deal.
Poor kid. Says “Invested $30k”. Bad investment. Didn’t realize Eklers still making these gaudy body pieces. Thought they went out in the 80’s. Even the 90’s Vette’s out of the factory, looked like a base Eklers design. Something with the bumper car look bumper line all the way around lol. A good investment is putting money into something that appreciates in value over time. This isn’t one of those examples.
No thinking ‘kid’ (& that if anyone, will be the buyer) has $22k to pay for a 20+ yr old car that’s been ‘customized’. I said ‘thinking’! I just had to look back at this thing to see he completely missed out on another ‘investment’ to add to it. How about ‘Lambo’ doors!!
