Daily Driver: 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Despite having close to 85,000 miles and seller himself referring to his car as driver-quality, this 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra presents quite well, partially due to a repaint in its original color in the early 2000s. The strong bidding on display here has yet to nudge the needle past the reserve price, but it does seem to show how much demand there is for decent quality Fox body cars with minimal tweaks or other alterations made to the factory formula. Find this Cobra here on eBay with bidding over $18,000 and the reserve unmet.

The Mustang Cobra built on the Fox body platform is one of those cars that is seemingly always hot. Despite being a limited production example, they still pop up with some regularity, with low-mileage time-warp cars obviously commanding the biggest money. That being said, the current bid trajectory on this specimen is nudging into what I used to call fair territory for an example that wasn’t perfect but at least had low mileage. With 85K and a repaint, I’m fairly shocked by this one.

Now, what we can see shows us that the Cobra was well-loved while in the care of its multiple owners. The gray leather isn’t perfect, but it’s better than most cars with this kind of mileage. The seller notes it was stored outdoors in California, so there may be some evidence of sun damage or fading. The driver’s seat does show plenty of cracking and other age-associated wear, and the seller does highlight a few blemishes inside. Overall, the presentation is that of a clean example, and the seller will even include an OEM radio in the sale.

While the engine bay appears stock, it has been modified with AFR cylinder heads and a BBK throttle body. The exhaust has also been enhanced, and the seller has upgraded the suspension with Bilstein shocks. Overall, this is a clean Cobra that hasn’t been modified into oblivion and that will likely turn in an even better driving experience than stock courtesy of the upgraded shocks. Provided the mileage doesn’t scare you (and it shouldn’t, unless you’re looking for a rolling time capsule) and the reserve is fair, this looks like a possible bargain.

    Where are the heads?
I like the modifications. Looks fairly nice. But I think the price is a bit high for a non original.

These were the best built performance machines from the nineties. I had much rather have this stang over one of the early ones. Fun to drive and don’t have to deal with rust. I think 18k will be cheap for this car in a few years.

I have a red 93 with 105K miles and I don’t think the price will ever go down on these, there just are not many left. I consider this a driver that appreciates in value.

I guess since I own three SN95 Cobras, I pretty much spoke my opinion on the fox body. Too light and unstable for high speed driving unlike my SN95s. I never saw the big fascination with the fox body and I owned two of them brand new. I guess if I was going to own another fox, it would be a teal 93 Cobra. Prices on these cars have grown to be stupid. I guess I’ll just hold on to my 7400 original mile Mystic a little while longer.
