The Malibu Sport Coupe was the biggest seller in the Chevelle intermediate series of cars sold by Chevrolet. More than 300,000 copies were produced in 1969 alone, comprising 60% of the total inventory. This ’69 Malibu was a fairly basic edition and has been off the road for 38 years. But it looks as though it recently escaped from a demolition derby as few body panels are dent-free. Located in Millsap, Texas, this Chevy is available here on eBay where the seller is waiting for the first bid to be cast at $6,995.
Following Ford’s introduction of a mid-size car in 1962, Chevrolet did so in 1964 with the Chevelle. Though sized between the Chevy II/Nova and the Impala/Bel Air/Biscayne, the automobiles were about the same size as the Tri-Five Chevies of 1955-57. The second generation of the Chevelle carried on between 1968 and 1972, so the 1969 models had minor styling changes.
If you were shopping for a family-oriented Malibu Sport Coupe, you might have ordered one like this. It has a 307 cubic inch V8 (the smallest eight-cylinder available) and a TH-350 automatic transmission. It also came with factory air conditioning, which would have been desirable in Texas, where the car has supposedly lived its whole life. The Malibu was parked in 1984 for reasons not mentioned, which may be mechanical as there isn’t a single fan belt on the engine.
We’re told this is an original car, so the drivetrain should be matching numbers. The paint, possibly Champagne in color, is original with an assortment of dents and dings that took 15 years or more to collect. There is some rust brewing in the fenders and rear quarters, but it doesn’t look to be terminal. The frame and floorboards may have nothing more than some surface rust to show for the passing years. While the buyer may see this car as SS 396 clone material, hopefully, it will be restored back to the day of sale in 1969.
This is real close to being a parts car. How do you trash a car like this all over more than everywhere else? Too bad.
More of these got trashed in the first 10 years than still exists today, gut the interior if it’s solid make a 70s car chase tribute car,run the hell out of with out any worries.
I want to know if whatever ate the holes in those seats is still there and still hungry. The stench is palpable to my nostrils. The only way this is workable is as a very cheap sale and someone has it in the garage to puter with, maybe for years. Expecting big bucks and to make an SS clone is not going to work.
Just needs the original steelies back and its a perfect beater time capsule
Should’ve Done The Derby
It’s a $3500.00 car
It’s a bit rough but you can get all the sheet metal. Not really a rust bucket but was driven hard over the years.
Would like to have my Malibu back it was cream color with gold interior bench seat car 307 automatic air conditioning sold it because I could not afford to replace heater core
Drop in a ls, a turbo and scare women and children with it. Lol
I don’t see a 7 grand car here. I see maybe, maybe half of that if someone wants a project car that needs everything.
what a shame.
Back in 1984, when this Chevelle was parked, most guys I know would have made this piece a dirt track stock car. Thats about all this bone is worth IMHO.
One bid of $6995 got it! It’s got good bones, rockers are good, frame is good, trunk floor is great! Gut the interior and get the power sprayer to work on the interior. Put some new (used?) fenders on the front, bang out some dents and find a motor. Dry Texas cars offer great opportunities.
Well fiddle sticks, I guess I just saved 7K. Because I just saw this after it was sold. As dinged up as this car is, I think it still has good bones to it. Do a survey of Chevelles for sale and you will see this is one of the most affordable entry level cars available. It’s a factory AC car with power steering and cloth seats. That is pretty cool to have in the south. I have everything I need in my garage to fix the front end on that car. That engine, unless the block is cracked wouldn’t be difficult to get up and running. That or restomod it however you want. There is a lot to work with here.
Why would you want to restore this donkey back to original? Not worth the time and money! Make a tribute SS or a nice, fast cruiser! At least you would have a better return your money!
Not bad if you have 65000 to rebuild it.
Yeah, the earlier comment is spot on about these being consumed by local stock car racer’s in the 80’s, El Cajon Speedway was full of them. That or half primered out street/strip/impound cars!
It’s amazing what little you get now for $7K.
Put it in the shop, patch panels, new drive train, the good thing with these older cars is the average mech can work on them, spend a couple of dollars and some sweat and you can get some looks, these older model cars are fun to build, try replacing the guibo flex seal on a bimmer and this is pie
If it were mine, I would drop a 6.0 LS into it, add disc brakes, a nice quiet exhaust, redo the interior, & drive it with the body as is. Would be a blast.
