Desert Find 4×4: 1947 Willys CJ2A

This 1947 Willys CJ2A is a pleasing survivor, wearing its years of sun-battered paint and roughshod living proudly – as a Jeep should. Few modern Jeep products will ever appear this well-loved, so take a closer look at this CJ2A, which has been off the road since 2003 but still runs and drives (it doesn’t stop.) The Willys will come with its clean Arizona title, and is listed here on eBay with bidding over $1,200 and the reserve unmet.

The seller considers the CJ2A a survivor, mostly due to the fact it’s not rotted out. Mileage is unknown, but the last owner lobbied a guess of around 70,000. The originality of the mechanical bits may suggest that number is accurate, but it’s near impossible to be sure on a vehicle that was often repaired by backyard and self-avowed mechanics. The Willys looks tough with its white steel wheels and spare gas can.

The interiors are extremely simple affairs, if not downright crude. There’s very little to judge a Willys of this era on, other than whether it still holds together. They can be absolute rust buckets, but this one appears to hide few secrets. Floors and rockers are said to be in good shape, and the seller claims he has crawled all over the truck to verify its dry condition. The iconic flat fenders look fairly straight and true, too.

The seller notes the drivetrain is largely original, at least in appearance. The “Twin Stick” 4×4 controls are still in place, as are the locking front hubs. It starts with one twist of the key and is said to idle well. The seller attributes the lack of brakes to a stuck pedal and faulty brake master cylinder, so factor one of those into your final bid. These CJ2As are always cool, especially when they’re rot-free and come with a title.

Having owned one of these I can attest to the fun factor of driving them. Fix the brakes, put a paint job on it and the fun starts from there. Plow isn’t mandatory.

If the original note comes up click on the blank spot to see the Jeep.

Have about 4 I think in to get going….good to see not so much rot on this one – one of mine had a top that saved it from the rusty floorboards. . Looking at 2 more – a WWII Jeep and another with a half cab. Sold a 1948 about 20 years ago to a guy that I still see and he just won’t part with he says as he gets offers all the time. It’s just an old knock about one and no beauty queen.

Nice plow truck bobhess. Would that be a rifle holder/grab bar on the feature rig?

Looks like it’s got the world’s beefiest cup holder. And that’s not a plow frame, it’s a tow bar

In my youth my dad had a CJ2a similar to this in the summer it had no top come fall the metal half top went on as did the plow ( upstate NY) , one tough little vehicle , lots of nights spent plowing with that old girl , she earned her keep .

Used to see these just easily idling past the big bad V-6’s and 8’s on Cadillac Hill and The Little Sluicebox on the Jeep Jamboree at Lake Tahoe-including mine!!!😳🤨
